Apologies in advance for the very long post!
I ran the contents of the official Style Korean BAC past Scout, my Co-Pilot, and here's what he came back with:
Calendar quality: 8.5/10
Excitement factor for you: 8/10
How much you actually need it: 4/10 😂
Risk of adding yet another layer to the stash: VERY HIGH
⭐ The stars
These are the products that make me sit up and take notice.
REJURAN Turnover Cream Enhanced 50ml - A particularly interesting inclusion. Rejuran is one of the more premium Korean skincare names and this isn't the sort of thing I normally expect to find padding out an advent calendar.
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Teca Glass Skin Milk Toner 210ml - A proper substantial toner rather than a token miniature. This is the kind of product I could genuinely see you incorporating into a routine.
Purito Seoul Mighty Bamboo Panthenol Cream 100ml - A whopping 100ml. Particularly useful as a comforting barrier-focused product.
COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum 50ml - Probably one of the most versatile things in the box. It fits much more easily into a routine than some of the aggressively active serums.
Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence 30ml
iUNIK Beta Glucan Lacto Barrier Milk Essence 200ml
Dr.Reju-All Advanced LC-Ceramide Barrier Cream 50ml
That little group gives the calendar a really good hydration/barrier-support backbone rather than making it nothing but trendy actives.
🔬 Then there's the "science-y K-beauty playground" - This is where the calendar gets quite fun:
- Dear Klairs Vitamin PDRN Bouncy Pore Serum
- Genabelle PDRN 3% Hyper Boost Ampoule
- VT PDRN Reedle Shot Eye Lifter
- Anua PDRN Lip Serum
- Medicube PDRN Pink Collagen Jelly Eye Masks
- Arencia NAD+ Booster Shot
- THOME CPR Triple Synergy Wrinkle Care Serum
- Numbuzin No.9 NAD Retinal Volumetox Eye Cream
- Celimax Vita-A Retinal Shot Tightening Booster
The published list really is unusually heavy on PDRN, retinal, peptides, barrier products and other current Korean skincare trends.
For someone who enjoys trying skincare, that's far more interesting than getting the fifteenth generic hyaluronic-acid serum.
😕 The bits I could happily lose
- Foodology Mindful Salad Stick - This feels like a filler item to me. I'd much rather have another beauty product.
- Esther Formula NMN Phytos Film - Same issue. Interesting curiosity, but I wouldn't personally include ingestible wellness products when calculating the beauty value of the box.
THREE eye-focused products
- VT Eye Lifter
- Sungboon Editor Eye Cream
- Numbuzin Retinal Eye Cream, plus
- Medicube eye masks.
💄 Surprisingly little make-up
This is either excellent or disappointing depending on your perspective.
Towards the end you get:
- TOCOBO Juicy Berry Plumping Lip Oil
- TIRTIR Waterism Glow Tint in Mauve Rose
And that's more or less the colour-cosmetic contribution.
📦 One huge positive: the sizes
This doesn't look like one of those calendars where the supposed enormous value is constructed from dozens of 5ml sachets.
Just look at some of these:
- SKIN1004 toner — 210ml
- iUNIK essence — 200ml
- Purito cream — 100ml
- NIDA cream — 100ml
- Moev hair oil — 80ml
- COSRX serum — 50ml
- REJURAN cream — 50ml
- Centellian24 cream — 50ml
- Dr Reju-All cream — 50ml
- AXIS-Y serum — 50ml
- Genabelle ampoule — 40ml
- Jumiso serum — 40ml
- Dear Klairs serum — 35ml
As at today, 28 October, the sources I found say the price is still TBC, with the launch expected in November. The claimed contents value is $881. And that's absolutely critical. I wouldn't be persuaded by "$881 value" on its own.
My personal thresholds for Keepincool would be approximately:
Under £130 - 🔥 Extremely tempting
£130–£160 - ✅ Very good buy
£160–£190 - 🤔 Good calendar, but think about the stash
£190–£220 - ⚠️ I'd probably resist
Over £220 - ❌ Definitely shop your stash instead
There is another wrinkle for us in the UK: one current report notes that StyleKorean orders ship from Korea and warns that UK import VAT can apply.
So I'd judge it on landed cost, not merely the headline price.
Overall: would Scout buy it for Keepincool?
Head: No. You have enough skincare to open your own branch of Boots😆
Heart: Ohhhh... yes. Because this is exactly your sort of calendar: Korean, treatment-heavy, lots of interesting brands, big sizes and surprisingly few boring filler products.
My sensible final answer:
-
Don't buy it on launch day purely because it appears. Wait to see the actual price.
- If it lands at around £150-ish or below including the realistic cost of getting it to the UK, I'd actually change my answer to yes.
- At nearer £200+, I'd say you've already got more interesting products sitting in your home waiting to be used.
- And rather dangerously, I think this is a much better match for your tastes than most mainstream beauty advent calendars. 😬
