To keep colouring my white hair or not?

Help please! I'm 57 and have been colouring my hair since I was a teenager. I haven't used bleach for around 3 years now and normally just get a dark blonde tint to cover my roots. I am almost 100% white now. I've faded brassy which I know is normal. I haven't coloured my hair since May this year as I wanted to see what my white looked like. It is very bright and does look nice but I'm so unsure of going the whole hog.

Skin tone wise, I'm fair with light blue eyes and have a neutral to cool leaning skin tone. The best colour I ever had was a cool chestnut brown. Hairdressers are telling me to just keep it white and have been advised to have a bleach bath to strip all existing colour to get a clean canvas. I was shocked when she showed me what I will go to! The tints she could apply didn't seem to add much depth.

Has anyone been in this position and continued with full on colouring or did you embrace the white and love it? I'm scared I'll look washed out going white and also scared it will age me.

Chat GPT just telling me what it thinks I want to hear so wanted to ask some real life people what their thoughts are.

Any ideas welcome!

I am very pale, too. My skin burns after 10 mins in weak spring sunshine! Both skin and hair change as we age. My pale skin and white hair aren't at all ghost-like. I love this look more than anything any hairdresser ever did to my locks!

I think you are very lucky to have naturally white hair, I think you’ve made the right decision to embrace it. You could have fun trying some new makeup or clothes to see what looks really good with your natural hair.

I think it looks good, though I’d ask it without a colour at all. I’ve coloured my hair since my teens too (first grey hair at 17) but much darker (a light golden brown) so for me going natural would really age me (I’ve asked ChatGPT too and ugh the results were awful) but going from blonde to white seems less of a stark move. I like the shorter cut of the AI image too. Your hair doesn’t look particularly thick so a blunter shoulder length cut would be more flattering.

While you look beautiful with your current hair, I suspect the cooler shades of blonde will lift you a bit more. You have an amazing complexikn and beautiful eyes and don’t look your age at all. All white would also suit you. I have very similar coloring and dyed my hair silver for a show and it made my eyes super blue. Unfortunately as I am naturally a medium neutral blonde, I suspect it will simply fade to yellow then beige if left to do it’s thing naturally. As your hair is in good condition, you could discuss a gradual move to your natural hair with your hairdresser. I also recommend having a look on Instagram and YouTube at grey blending from blonde and look for ideas there.
