Hello,

I was looking for advice on what brands etc to buy for my daughter's upcoming school ski trip. We aren't a family who have a lot of money and weve made sacrifices for her to go on the trip so any suggestions that are budget friendly but she won't feel like the odd one out put that do the job and keep her warm would be much appreciated. I feel overwhelmed and out of my comfort zone with it all. TIA
Here is the list I've been sent:
Ski Jacket – wear on the journey x1
Sallopettes (ski trouses) x1
Thermal top x 3-5
Thermal bottoms x 3-5
Tshirts for skiing x 5
Ski Socks x 5
Ski Goggles x1
Ski Gloves x1
Quarter zips/fleeces/jumpers for under ski jack x3
Neck warmers

What sorts of t-shirts do they mean? Just normal cotton ones?

Aldi sometimes has some nice ski stuff in

Roxy looks like a really good option for her

Also, what is a neck warmer? Are there any particular fleeces you recommend?

A neck warmer is a loop of material you put over your head. Micro fleeces are the best as they are thinner and easier to layer. Google “ski base layers” for thermals (Decathlon have a good selection at various price points. You don’t need very expensive ones). There is also advice on Google about what kit you really need for skiing. Might be worth a look

Primark will have base layers and is fine. Thermal base layers are better as they are smoother and comfier than sport leggings. 2 leggings and 2 long sleeved thermal plus normal t-shirts and long sleeved tops. Fleece can get from primark for £6- 8 Get a 2 x thin micro fleece and a chunky Borg one. Warm thermal socks. For evenings so warm leggings. Googled and ski stuff from decathlon. A merino buff is good and also a a fleece one. I also like a fleece headband. Don’t bother with merino base layer- yes it nice but expensive and pain to wash and dry

Thanks so much for your suggestions. She's going to a place called Bormeo in Italy at the end of Feb. It's a school in a fairly deprived area and they've never done anything like this before. Another school that belongs to the same trust has kindly said they will take some of the kids from our school on their annual ski trip.
If anyone could send me a few links to the sort of items I should be buying then I'll look on Vinted for the bargains. I'm particularly stressing about the thermals. Thank you

I have always bought thermals from marks online for my kids up to age 14 . Or the adult men merino wool tops. I’ve always gone for max heat online.

I would invest in new gloves (2 sets)

Another vote for Vinted, got all DS’s ski stuff on there and put it straight back on when he came back. One thing which is a must is a proper ski jacket with snow skirt and a pocket in the arm for her ski pass

actually decathlon has much better stuff than primark. Breathable base layers and gloves and so on. I like this ski jacket but not looked at the reviews and how waterproof it is. Dare 2 B is sold in go out doors too.

Adult's winter snoods & neck warmers | Decathlon https://share.google/ROcNx2llqMA7nfE3N

Well worth it, I love my neckwarmers. Basically its function is like a scarf but obviously when skiing you don't want long flapping bits!

My dd is also going on her first ski trip, I’ve bought her ski pants, jacket, snow boots, socks, fleece neck scarf all from Frasers. Face scarfs are a must to protect their faces from the cold. I’ve bought it in the sales during summer. I also went through top cash to get a little extra back. I bought the Nevica brand.

Luckily we have relatives that ski regularly so have given a few tips. They recommend fleece lined leggings from primark and cheap thermal tops for all her base layers. I’ve bought 3 pairs of leggings and 3 tops (she’s going for 6 days) Apparently Aldi ski gear is just as good as some expensive brands. we’ve also been told it might not be as cold as we think and plenty of people walk around in hoodies when not skiiing.

ive not bought anything special for general wear, dd has hoodies and a couple of jumpers to wear over her base layers. I will probably send some T-shirts.

Check what equipment is available at the ski venue as some stuff can be hired or is provided.

Has your dd signed up for any pre trip lessons? Mine has done 2 group ones but isn’t getting much out of them as it’s 1 tutor per group and some of the less able children are taking up all his time she’s getting about 10min worth of lesson in an hour session, so we have worked it out it would be better to pay the extra to have a decent 1 on 1 lesson now and hopefully she will only need one more before she goes. We decided there was no point spending all that money for her not to get the most out of the trip.
