Vinted credit - WWYD

I’ve had a big clear out and amassed £300 on Vinted.
I’d like to pick a few key pieces for winter. I’m struggling to decide. I no longer work in an office so am in casual and exercise clothes all the time these days.
I live in a very Boden/Wyse suburb and don’t want to be another leopard barrel/Onitsuka Tiger clone. Nothing wrong with those things - just that they’re a uniform here.

I’m a short size 10. I like cashmere but have quite a bit already. Was toying with a classic Barbour or big down parka maybe. I do need some comfortable leather Chelsea boots or similar. And my Puma trainers are getting past it.

I was planning to spend my winnings on Vinted because your money goes so much further but perhaps I should withdraw it. WWYD? 🙏🏼

I worded that badly and was looking for style advice and to know what other people would pick.
But yeh I probably should consider moving the money. It’s just that I like having a clothing budget in there. And Vinted £s have more purchasing power than £GBPs!

No they don't. You can withdraw the money to your bank account and still spend the same amount on Vinted. Just not have it sitting in the Vinted app.

Take it out, I've just done mine after starting to read this thread (had £25 in there) and it took about 30s to appear in my bank account. Just keep a note if you want to budget it for future Vinted buys.

I think it’s just a way of signalling ‘Never worn, in perfect condition’ with proof, rather than an obsession. I only sell on Vinted, never buy, but I gather (partly from buyers’ ecstatic feedback on stuff I’ve sold them, which is washed, ironed and in exactly the condition described) that ‘good condition’ can mean practically anything.

You are right but I also see this a lot on MN in general, also comments about never buying used which sometimes seem to signal something that I don’t understand. Cultural differences maybe.

A couple of years ago I got laughed at on a Christmas thread when I said we were often giving and getting hand-me-downs in my family, which is true. I didn’t engage.

I got a Hermès scarf from my mum that year, I ’d rather get a meaningful used item than a poor quality new one.

I've been ok buying shoes off vinted. I tend to re-buy trainers I've already owned and worn out, so when they arrive I can do a side by side check to see if they're genuine. I only buy when the seller has provided really good pictures, including the soles. My feet have survived! Good trainers these days are insanely expensive and a lot of second hand ones are in very good condition, as it can take a couple of wears before realising a new style isn't fully comfortable.

(SELLING trainers on vinted is another story though. Their AI moderation is vicious! I've had my item deleted for stuff like lowering the price! They always reinstate but it can take weeks.)

I like to buy new with tags items from vinted. What's not to like about buying something beautiful, or expensive, brand new for a fraction of the price?

I also buy 'new without tags' but don't usually veer lower down the hierarchy than that as i am less interested in well worn items especially shoes etc

I can't see how buying new with tags from vinted is any less worthy than buying used items? It's still reusing something rather than buying from shops!

Edited

It’s not less worthy of course, but it can be seen as being ashamed of buying second hand, iykwim? That’s how it comes across, sometimes.

Besides, if you only look for new with tags you are much more likely to see more fast fashion that nobody ever liked (including the seller who has never worn the item). It’s much harder to find interesting or truly vintage clothing and accessories NWT.

My latest vinted find was an Inoui Editions scarf from 2017 called Matoo, I have been looking for it for over a year.If I had my search set to NWT I would never have found it!

As soon as any amount of money clears it's taken straight off vinted I don't need them holding onto my money for me.

WrongWomen · 15/10/2026 13:57

I also said i buy new without tags ....

god people are odd about Vinted!! I love it, have made thousands over the years (and spent more 😂) I would use the £300 to buy some good boots, a few decent dresses from brands I trust my size in and a coat I loved. Maybe a monsoon one in a nice shape. I think maybe figure out your vibe and go from there - dresses, tights and oversized jumpers/cardis? Barrel jeans, peplum tops, trainers? (I get what you mean about it being a uniform though!) decent jeans, nice blouses or tops? Find what you fancy wearing - check instagram for ideas of winter fashion and then make a list. I’d probably go for a chunky jumper as well that I could layer over dresses or a midi skirt with a necklace or scarf. Maybe a blazer type coat that is resized fit to wear with dresses or jeans? Exciting!

Thank you to the posters who mentioned moving the money out (and apologies for the slight derail)… I’ve somehow amassed £120 that’s been sitting there for months. Withdrawn today and ear marked for a meal out with DP next week.

I think part of my problem is that I’m not interested enough in clothes to know exactly what would make a good investment.
Good ideas here though thanks.

So maybe just buy brighter or fancier versions of things you already wear? If you like jeans, try a new shape or a print like leopard. If you like jumpers, try one with a collar or detail. If you like trainers, try a coloured style like a gazelle. I would introduce colour through tights - start slow by changing black tights to navy/grey/brown. Then add a burgundy and a green pair. Tights are so easy to add and change an outfit. Instead of worrying about an investment, think about what you would actually wear and go from there?

WhatMe123 · 23/10/2026 22:41

Withdraw it asap as vinted at the min are going mad and closing people’s accounts for apparently selling counterfeit goods , I know one
person whos account was closed for trying to sell a fake next top (I suspect their using ai bots to check accounts and it’s gone very wrong) and then people are left without access to their money

Agapornis · 24/10/2026 12:19

Why not cash out and spend it on something you ARE interested in? I spend my Vinted earnings on plants.

This. My Vinted earnings are specifically to fund a particular thing.

Me too. Last year I blew the lot (€650) on one, beautiful, pièce of jewellery that I never in a million years would have justified buying otherwise. This year, my earrings have been pre-spent on a frivolous bag. Both items give me huge pleasure.
