Can I go shorter

I recently chopped off my outgrown bob to a much shorter bob. I’m feeling the pull to go shorter. Im 60, and to be honest feeling a little depressed and overwhelmed in general with life at the moment, have a lot of caring responsibilities, as well as a grown up disabled son. Plus my hair is thinning, and I don’t have the energy to blow dry/style all the time. I do need to look a little presentable for my part-time job. I don’t like wearing earrings these days, so I worry that I’d need to wear earrings or make up to look presentable with short hair.

so could I go shorter?

Don’t do this yoh will look like prince Farquhar from shrek.

No she won't, she's an attractive woman.

Gosh, you are beautiful. I totally agree a pixie cut would look brilliant.

I've attached a photo idea as an example.

That's gorgeous

You're so pretty! 😍What lovely bone structure.

I think the first reply is right, that it's a perfect length for you. It emphasises your cheekbones.

If you want to do something else, why not experiment with colour or a fringe? A sideswept fringe would ring the changes and is low-commitment; will grow out in a few short months if you don't like it. Failing that, you could try temporary wash-in, wash-out toners. They give you a boost but are cheap and low-commitment.

I think the length is really chic. If you go any shorter, you might get the dreaded mop-head look.

Loo up Wella Colorfresh masks. Or, for semi-permanent fun colours, Loreal Colorista.

I am going to add to the consensus - you like ok amazing, very elegant and chic. You have amazing bone structure - you could do anything with your hair and still look fantastic!

DoreenCorkhill · 09/10/2026 16:17

I really like your style currently
kind of 1930s chic so sophisticated - arty creative vibes
It’s the kind of bob I would love but my hair grows out the way so would never do .
it seems to have a natural wave so maybe get your stylist to show you how to enhance that with some products ?
Colour is stunning too .
Sometimes I think how we are feeling generally impacts on how we feel about our hair and at over 60 myself I get the ‘cut it all off ‘ thing I’m curly and sometimes think I’m too old for my hair .
Honestly I think you look great.

Wow you have stunning features and your colour is gorgeous. You really suit this, is your hair wavy/curly? You could add layers choppy not quite a pixie that could dry on it own or blast with a dryer. I have fine hair but lots and I had a similar cut when I was ill 4 years ago. It dried wavy or a blast with a dryer sorted it. X

This is a good idea. Add some layers and invest in a can of mousse. Then you could even just apply the mousse when wet, scrunch, and leave to air-dry. Wavy hair lends itself to this sort of styling.

TattieSconeEggAndBacon · 09/10/2026 16:21

You look great!

Honds · 09/10/2026 16:24

One of the most glamorous, well turned out older women I know has very short hair. I wouldn't says he's high maintenance but she always has simple but immaculately done make up, fabulous earrings and well put together outfits

If you're more get up and go (like me) I think short hair can actually require more than I'm prepared to give.

Eta: BTW I love your current style.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 09/10/2026 16:26

You are very striking. I think you could look fantastic with shorter, choppier messy hair. Like a pixie but with more movement to it. Then just rub it up with wax everyday. I used to have my hair like this and it was the easiest style ever.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 09/10/2026 16:30

What a stunning face you have.

Lakeyloo · 09/10/2026 16:39

From someone who has just gone the other way... pixie to chin length bob, i wouldn't go shorter if you are looking for easy. I'm really enjoying not having to wet my hair every morning to sort out the awful bed hair ! I had short hair for 20 years and am finding my bob so much easier. (but i think you would look great with either)

Happyjoe · 09/10/2026 16:51

No, you look fab, perfect length and just long enough to pin up or blow dry big for a party or whatnot. Looking good and do not look 60!

MinnieM101 · 09/10/2026 17:43

I think you have made that hairstyle look really stylish . It suits you , you have a gorgeous face with lovely features . Don’t go shorter , you rock that look

MancMary · 09/10/2026 18:10

Looks good as it is but, if you wanted to go shorter, give it a go: it will grow back - and you might find you like earrings again

putitonthewrongway · 09/10/2026 18:13

I have no opinion on going shorter as I’m not sure but just wanted to say that the grey hair looks really lovely on you, and also the current length looks lovely.

Smallestshadow · 09/10/2026 21:53

Wow you’re very striking OP with amazing skin! 🤩
