Should I chop it all off?

I've had long hair for years, but 95% of the time it's up in a bun. It's easy but boring! When I was younger I always had it short, but I think I've lost my nerve.

Take a look at this (sorry don't know how to do link)
www.handbag.com/beauty/audrey-tautou-crop-hairstyle/gallery

Not that I look too much like lovely audrey, but I have the same shape face!

So, long or short??

Short(er) I don't see the point of growing hair long just to tie it up.

And you shouldn't have a bun unless you're a ballet dancer. Or a nun.

I kind of like the ballet dancer look! Plus, in theory if it's long you have options, even if you don't use them!

lapin, I cut it up to shoulder length a few weeks ago, felt very liberating! That's probably what made me think of going shorter.

What I'm slightly afraid of is looking like one of those women who gets to a certain age and can't be bothered any more so just cuts it all off! I suppose I need a really good hairdresser to avoid that look!

If you go really short, you need to be able to have the time and money to get it cut every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking good. I have short short hair and I really like it, which is a good thing, because I could never go through the "growing out" stage if I decided I wanted it longer again. That would just drive me nuts.
