Colour analysis. Studiously avoided until now but thinking of succumbing.

I’m 55 so colour analysis just takes me back to the eighties and nineties with women who’d bought some mail order course swathing people in shiny polyester in lots of different colours, declaring they are a “winter” or an “autumn” and recommending ghastly colours nobody sane would be seen dead in. I never had it done myself but saw it on TV and in magazines and was thoroughly put off.

It crops up quite a lot online now and I know I’m fairly clueless as to what’s suits me beyond knowing that oatmeal makes me look like corned beef. Can anyone recommend a really effective way of doing it that they have undergone and found really helpful? I don’t mind paying if necessary.

I trained with colour me beautiful in the 1990s. I'm an autumn.

I can wear most colours but autumn is definitely more flattering. Green and warm red really suit me and I wear orange in the summer.

However I think style for body shape is really useful. You get to know what trouser shape and necklines.

I might be worth searching for the books by Mary Spellaine. She was a political speech writer and headhunter. A famous lady polictian was a client and a royal. She trained me.

If I had my time again I'd do this full time as I'm clothes obsessed and love shopping.

ChatGPT was great for me, I had my colours done in my 20s when I was told I was an autumn, however autumn colours never suited me, but I kept buying more and more different shades in that colour family hoping to find the right one, I uploaded a couple of photos to ChatGPT taken in different lights and it showed me I am actually a dark winter and those tones and colours are ones I'd always worn wondering why they suited me as an autumn!

@MatchaTea1 it's interesting isn't it when you naturally feel happy in something? My late mother was a winter and I sometimes wear some of her things. What I absolutely can't wear is grey, navy or silver . I look like porridge in it. My BFF who is a summer has a silver cashmere coat and looks fabulous on her, ditto baby pink. I look like an old lady in that!
