Will a tote bag be big enough. This will be instead of a handbag.
Do the airline measure this bag.
It's usually holding passport, paperwork, purse, kindle and specs.. Maybe a bikini and spare knickers.
Newspapers for DH to read.

That's true. And we try to fly hand luggage only these days (as does everyone I guess!). In fact over new year we're away for a 6 days, and the flights were such a pain we decided to Le Shuttle it on a flexi ticket. So good not having to worry about bags and weight, and flight times and check in! Freeing..

But yes re the bag, it could be too big for a hand luggage hand bag plus hand luggage arghh

I have a cupboard with god knows how much luggage in because airlines won't come together to have universal requirements!

Check your airline rules carefully.

Jet2’s ‘handbag’ size is 20x30x40 Cm which is much smaller than some of these suggestions, for example.

You carry newspapers, plural, for your DH to read?

What's wrong with the newspapers, guessing OP isn't being abused into carrying them?

DH's bag is bigger than mine and I put my magazine in his, not an issue.

Sorry my reply was to mymanincaracaas….still think their suggestion of £230 was utterly ridiculous! Tesco do a bag for life for less than a quid!

You use a bag for life on the plane?

I use a Foldie travel bag. It has been on BA and Jet2 flights as hand luggage, I’m not sure about other airlines.

i also use it as a beach bag while I’m away. It has pockets and is extendable. I was a bit dubious as I saw it on Instagram but I would recommend.

This could be an option, only £20.

I’ve checked a zipped large laundry bag into the plane’s hold before now - it contained Graham and green velvet bedspread, a mulberry silk one and Robert welch kitchen knives for my house in Spain. Not using a case kept the weight down and packing tape kept it secure .

that said this thread has just influenced me to get a replacement crossbody bag for my passport as mine has died a death.

I prefer a small rucksack (like they sell in decathlon) plus a very small handbag that functions as a pocket for grabbing things quickly and can be put into your rucksack at the point when the “one bag” is checked.

I find anything bigger than a tiny pocket back needs to be in a rucksack because otherwise the weight is unevenly distributed and it hurts my back.

You can get smart looking “leather” rucksacks too if you want that.

Also don’t get sucked into carrying things for your DH - that’s a mugs game!

Nothing like OP asking for a tote to carry passport, paperwork, purse, kindle etc and being told to use a Tesco bag for life.
