Do these photo handbags make you puke or would you actually rather like one ?

Gina Alexander Photo Handbags

I'm interested in stocking these or similar for a child photography business (maternity, newborn, babies, kids) and the American market tends to go crazy for them. Just wondered what you all thought...

i bet grannies love them.

if Dee would like one, then it may make for good advertising for you.

however i wont buy one.

as it would blow my cover.

and i am stretching to a £4 bag from tesco this week i#m even getting dh to buy it for me.

dooneygirl · 29/06/2008 23:18

I AM the American market, and I hate them. I have a huge love for purses, they are my guilty pleasure, but, trust me, DH knows better to bring one of them home. There are TONS of other purses out there in that price range that I would love.

hub2dee · 29/06/2008 23:20

dooney, I have a friend who is a photographer in LA (same specialisation as me except she's been doing it for ages) and she says the photobags sell well.

I think I will just use my wife as a walking billboard, but if the mere sight of the bag makes everyone vomit it might not be the smartest move ever.

key phrase 'who is a photographer in LA'

Yikes!

Should go down well in the US.

thumbwitch · 29/06/2008 23:31

I personally think they are totally vomit-making, handbags especially but the whole concept; OTOH my sister has a tote bag with her DDs faces on it which she loves, but then she goes in for all that twee, girly kitschy stuff which I really don't.

Thing is H2D, I think there are a lot of companies that already offer the photo tote bag option, so you might be buying into a glutted market

hub2dee · 29/06/2008 23:31

pmsl.

I daren't ask you about photo jewelry...

OP posts:
Aitch · 29/06/2008 23:33

i think an old-fashioned locket might be nice, with the photo perfectly sized rather than being hacked at with a pair of nail scissors.

thumbwitch · 29/06/2008 23:33

how about photo transfers/ temporary tattoo type things, if you want something different? Tiny ones for the nails perhaps, or larger ones for the arms/ backs?

hub2dee · 29/06/2008 23:36

pmsl thumb.

ooh lockets it is then. The images are I think encased in resin so the neclace / bracelet 'charm' image is (a) properly fitted and (b) waterproof.

OP posts:
Spidermama · 29/06/2008 23:36

I think wall paper with a repetition of the blown up image many many times to cover a whole room would look really nice. Especially in a very large room regaled with further sentimental trinkets and perhaps a serious collection of cuddly toys.

Oh stop. I feel guilty and hard-bitchish now.

thumbwitch · 29/06/2008 23:40

ooh, no, I've had another idea... teddies with pics of DCs on their tums instead of other nauseating sweet teddies

Aitch · 29/06/2008 23:41

see, i woulnd't personally want it visible to anyone else. i got some amazing photos done of dd last year, hub, we just bought a framed photo for me and for grandma. worth every penny. www.kensharp.com he framed it himself, will you be offering that service?

you might recognise dd from my website... if you do, please feel free to enthuse (but don't let on which one she is. )

sorry H2D - perhaps you could do photo/ keepsake albums where the cover is a personalised photo instead of some random-kids-on-a-beach (one my parents have)?

hub2dee · 29/06/2008 23:49

Aitch, I've seen your shot and it's lovely. Yes, I will be offering framed print, there are also several options for albums / storybooks etc. with customised photo covers, leathers, etc.

OP posts:
Aitch · 29/06/2008 23:53

thanks. i'd deffo be thinking in terms of grandparents, tbh. and you know what else? blooming thank-you cards. bane of my fookin' life. you could offer a card with 'camille would like to thank you very much' printed and then on the inside you'd just write 'for x present etc' and as a parent that'd be job blooming done.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 23:53

or even postcards.

hub2dee · 30/06/2008 06:45

Yeah postcards are almost more convenient to get a 'quick note to someone' and sometimes look classier / plainer than a folded card...

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 30/06/2008 07:11

The only person I know with one has a pic of her fugly dgos on it. Maybe that's the loon market to aim for?

ladytophamhatt · 30/06/2008 07:16

Yes, I'd buy postcards/thankyou cards....thats a FAB idea.

Bags, purses, suitcases, wallpaper, ties, socks, underwear () are bad. Very bad.
Very Bad indeed.

Don't do it.

Aitch · 30/06/2008 10:50

pluuuuuuuus, you could offer a discount to customers if they return that year for a quick shot of the whole family for their christmas card. it's super-cheesy but more and more popular to do these cards i think. again, an american thing but i actually do like seeing everyone in their santa hats.
