Can I wear trainers with sheer tights and a silk midi skirt?

I need some help please. I have very pale and veiny legs so bare legs aren’t really an option for me.

I have just ordered a silk midi skirt to wear for work. To dress it down I wanted to style it with trainers (variety of adidas styles/colours, I know the hype has passed) but is it okay to wear them with neutral coloured sheer tights? My head says no but what’s the alternative please? I usually wear trousers but I love the skirt! Thank you

You lost me at ‘silk midi skirt for work’ - it sounds a little impractical, really.
I don’t think it would.look that great with trainers either.
I’d find a different pair of shoes, flat if you like, or with a small heel/wedge.

tartyflette · 23/08/2026 14:48

And sorry, neutral coloured tights look quite weird with trainers.

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 23/08/2026 14:50

Well you can obviously but I don't think you should.

Changingplace · 23/08/2026 14:51

The skirt and trainers sound fine, I’ve got a silk midi skirt I wear with trainers, but I’d get yourself some fake tan for your legs rather than tights.

Why would it be impractical? It’s a really good smart/casual outfit, I imagine OP is thinking this kind of thing.

Won’t the skirt stick to the tights unless you wear a slip with it, but will bulk it up. Fake tan your legs, if it’s midi you’ll only see lower calf and ankles so you’d get away with trainers

I'm very pale and use the dove body lotion with gradual tan (light shade) exfoliate well in the shower then use a mitt to apply it, it's very natural and just takes the ghostly glow away for me, you don't get lines or patches and it doesn't come off all over your clothes. I use it a couple of times a week.

I saw a lady in M&S with a silk skirt, trainers and socks on. She looked absolutely incredible. Like a model. So effortlessly cool and greeted me with a huge smile as I passed, staring admiringly at her! I’d say you can wear tights yes. Socks too if you want! Seems very fashionable.

No to fake tan. There's nothing wrong with white skin and it's far better than fake tan.

A slip does not bulk up a skirt.

There’s nothing wrong with pale legs. I think the tights would look weird and would also make the skirt static/clingy.

The reason OP is suggesting tights is because she wants to cover her skin, that’s her personal choice.

Fake tan can be very natural, I bet most of the time you wouldn’t even notice someone had it on.

sheer tights need to get in the bin forever

What did she have on the bottom half?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2026 15:32

Despite MN’s horror over sheer tights, I don’t think anybody would actually notice them if paired with a midi skirt, unless somebody was lying under a desk that you were seated at. And then you’d have bigger problems than tights.

ElsiePiddockSkipsinherSleep · 23/08/2026 15:32

The skirt and the trainers are fine. The tights are definitely not.

I would recommend the This Works Perfect Legs cream. It makes your legs look flawless.

Edited

Fake tan looks really weird when legs are tanned and arms and face aren't.

MN is obsessed with fake tan. In reality I see far more women with bare white skin

I fake tan my legs because otherwise they’re far paler than my face and arms. My face and arms get far more day to day sun exposure than my legs, so they’re really pale in comparison. The fake tan is to make everything the same shade!

Thanks all, pretty much confirmed my thoughts on the tights. I did buy some of the This works Perfect legs but it smells awful (to me). It’s the veins more than the paleness but maybe I need to get over myself.

it is a more matte version of the skirts posted above, marginally shorter, I don’t think it’s unsuitable for work at all.

Pale legs are lovely. Honestly the amount of too-orange legs I’ve seen this summer has put me off fake tan for life. It’s so tacky. We don’t need to be tanned! It’s good to be pale!

Is this a trick question? A silk skirt, trainers and socks. Like I said 🤣

Mycatmax · 23/08/2026 16:10

Fake tan would be better I think.

Sally Hanson airbrush legs is magic for veins. Worth a go and better than sheer tights anytime.

Haha i'm a red head & wear fake tan just to be white instead of luminous / blue.

I guarantee you would not realise i'm wearing it, in fact you'd probably think oh how lovely, she's happy in her pale skin!

Without it i could blind people with my luminosity
