How can I fade new forehead pigmentation in my forties?

Just turned 40 and low and behind I notice I have light brown pigmentation appearing on my forehead. I am normally quite freckled on my face so I didn’t quite clock it.

i am by far the opposite of a sun worshipper. But i don’t have a real skincare routine

how do i fade these marks before things get out of hand 😭

Strangely enough, a few days ago, I suddenly remembered that I had had this for several years, and it had now completely gone.
For me, it started on my forehead in my forties and I also developed some pigmentation around my jawline over the years.
I must have had it for several years because it used to disappear over winter and return over summer.
I am pale and keep my head out of the sun, but I couldn’t really stop it, even through wearing hats whenever I went out.
I think it was hormone related because it has gone and I am in my fifties now.

I answers but I have one in my cheek so following for inspiration!

I was looking at Dermatica but I am wary 😂
I wear make up a lot so it’s easy to hide but I’d rather do something about it now

Niacimide, vitamina C serum, retinols, hyalauronic acid.

All my pigmentation has faded away with consistent use of a red light mask. I have the Current Body one (not the most up-to-date version). You do have to set aside 10 minutes a day to do it.

My skin reacts very badly to Vitamin C which is often recommended for this. I also struggle with retinoids but have found the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin Renewing Water Cream to be gentle enough for every day use. And although it’s not cheap, it’s often on offer.

I tried everything and now have a fringe. Sorry op.

Retinol worked for me and also improved my redness. I swear by it.

Eucerin do a serum that worked amazingly well for me.

I have this on my forehead and cheeks, I hate it. Also in my forties. I was a sun worshipper and back in the 80s/90s sun cream was factor 2, 4 or 8, but I always had a heavy fringe so I do think it could be hormonal rather than sun damage.

My older sister also had it and hers has gone now, as per a previous poster, so I’m hoping mine do too.

It does look a lot more obvious when I have a tan - I wear tinted factor 50 spf in place of foundation now daily so hopefully won’t get worse if is damage.

I get mine lasered off in a beauty salon. Its amazing, no marks or scars just a nice smooth blemish free face.
I'm in my 60s so I get hand and face hyper pigmentation lasered off as soon as it appears.

Zaza2020 · 21/08/2026 21:25

HRT really helped mine and the obvious high sun factor an face 50+ all year round. Vitamin c and rosehip seed oil helped mine fade a bit. Mine looks like a moustache so i'll swap you!! 😅

What is everybody finding gives them hyperpigmentation?

I have old marks from eczema, but I was advised against laser because it might scar. Is that bad advice? It was years ago so maybe they can be more gentle with it now.

It’s on arms and legs. Perhaps I should give it a try.

Currently on a program of retinol and niacinamide but have been warned the old marks may not shift.

If you can get your hands on it - Azelaic Acid 20% and tretinoin - both prescription only in UK but available abroad. Alternate days or AA in the morning and tret in evening 2-3 times per week. You may need to build up usage and if sensitive, you can sandwich it. Lots of guidance from derms online.

I just had IPL, which I’m in the midst of so it’s really really dark and I’m holding my breath it’s worked!
I did get something in a beauty calendar which was amazing, will have to go find it.

The ordinary's tranexamic acid is an over night treatment that works.

Nothing works for me permanently so have embraced it and just got better at covering it. Have managed to get it down with intense treatment (used obaji system and peels) but it comes back.

Make a routine of always putting on factor 50 in the morning. If you’re lucky enough to be able to reduce it this will keep it bay/reduce it.
