Where to find a formal dress for Cunard red and gold night

I'm going on Cunard's transatlantic cruise later in the year and I need a formal dress for red & gold night. I have no idea where to look! Any ideas?

Everything I've seen so far is for size 8 tall people! I'm mid 50s, size 16, 5f 2.

Budget up to £250.

Thanks!!

Oooh lucky you! I went on the QM2 last year and we had the black and white themed formal night instead.

I'm not sure where you can get a dress in those colours but you could accessorise with them fairly easily.

Also have you tried Facebook groups for suggestions as I found them really helpful?

You'll have a wonderful time!

Just get a red one and accessorize with gold.

Or a gold one and accessorise with red.

I would look on Vinted! Easy to put size, colours, condition etc. into the filters.

Even if you don’t buy, it will give you a range of brands and labels to explore further.

Phase 8 always worth a look for stuff like this, or Hobbs.

Vinted can be great for occasion wear because people sell it on after wearing once.

Which facebook groups would you recommend?

I hadn't thought of Boden, so thank you, and also I have a Roman near me so I can look and try on.

I never seem to find the right sizes on Vinted! I looked for size 16s and got nothing but 12s

That first one Juliette has suggested is really lovely

Lifelover16 · 20/08/2026 12:45

Echoing a PP, there are a number of FB sites dedicated to those who enjoy cruising. Cunard and QM2 both have websites to give you ideas and there are several cruise clothing ones with evening wear for sale.
Have a great time!

There is a Cunard Queen Mary Group but also general Cunard groups will be good as the other ships also have formal nights.

They sell masks for the masked night on the ship so they may well sell accessories for the red and gold event.

I wore a black dress with a white shawl for the black and white night. My biggest advice is not to stress about it too much as some women just wore black trousers and a black and white top, while others went full gown.

wendywoopywoo222 · 20/08/2026 12:56

I would wear a black dress with gold jewellery and maybe red shoes. Lots of people won’t be wearing red or gold dresses.

SirChenjins · 20/08/2026 12:57

Vinted - but honestly, you can wear anything, it's not compulsory and not everyone dresses up,. Far from it actually. Just be aware that the gala nights aren't any different from the other nights, other than people dress up, and you're just as likely (or probably more likely) to see women in red blouses and smart trousers as you are to see them in formal dresses. A black dress with a gold bag or gold shoes would also work absolutely fine.

EasternStandard · 20/08/2026 12:58

Not sure if you mean needing both colours but I’d just choose which of the two suits you more.

Kazziek · 20/08/2026 14:19

Amazing, thank you all. I have a decent amount of formal stuff from other cruises, but thought I'd treat myself 😁

Lots of great ideas, all very much appreciated

There is this one in a wine colour. Sadly the bright red is sold out in a 16.

I did a Cunard red and gold night just a few days ago. I got a fantastic Phase 8 dress from Vinted, size 16, for £8!

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 21/08/2026 07:38

Don't call it a transatlantic cruise when you are on board, I got told off for doing that....Cunard say transatlantic is a crossing not a cruise!! 😂

keepswimming38 · 21/08/2026 07:46

Roman.

Gloriousgardener11 · 21/08/2026 07:53

Vinted is your friend here!
I went on a Cunard cruise earlier this year with the red/gold night and a black and white night.
Bought both my dresses and accessories on Vinted, loads of choice.
