What do you think of Clinique make up?

Teainapinkcup · 19/08/2026 17:52

What do we think of clinique? I need some make up that is fragrance free, I need a new mascara that is not one of those ones that cause panda eyes and I need some new lipstick. Any other recommendations welcome, thank you.

I like Clinique mascara and eyeliner a lot. Get the tubing one if you're trying to avoid panda eyes.

I like some of the lip and cheek colours but I've never got on with the foundations.

I think Clinique used to be really good but unfortunately like a lot of brands the quality has gone right downhill. See also Aveda and Clarins.

can you say what you mean by the quality?

In what way?

hellospring26 · 20/08/2026 09:55

Loved it about 25 years ago. Don’t even try it anymore. It is just £££££ for not great.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 20/08/2026 10:02

I’ve just bought the black honey lip gloss after seeing rave reviews about if for ages and I bloody love it. It’s gorgeous and I thoroughly recommend it

Cardhey · 20/08/2026 10:07

Rubbish but saying that as they have reduced the size of face powder ‘to align with industry and sustainability standards’…. But The packaging is the same size, just the contents have been subjected to shrinkflation. and no price change either. Absolute rip off.

AtlasCedar · 20/08/2026 10:17

I love their black honey lip balm. I don’t bother with anything else because it’s over priced

I just don't think it feels a quality product like it did when I first bought it in the 90s. The consistency and the staying power.
Also why they've messed with City Block I'll never understand.

Clarins used to be full of lovely herbal smelling creams etc. Now, apart from the still great oils everything smells nasty and sweet and artificial.

Lavenderandbrown · 20/08/2026 12:57

Clinique has always been here and there in my makeup drawer. And yet I often find myself buying “something else”. I feel their technology hasn’t changed much hasn’t kept up.

I used to buy eyeshadow and currently have 6 and do use but I like Chanel better. Little
less sparkle. Neither are sparkly but the Clinique has more which I’m leaning away from as I age

mascara. I loved the curved brush but can’t easily find it. Currently using L’Oréal voluminous primer and maybelline sky high

left the foundation about 14’yrs ago for bare minerals and never went back

i do rate their blush and I use a different blusher everyday and a Clinique one is always in the mix.

I have used and still love the dramatically different moisturizer and the all
about eyes rich for eye area

I like their lipsticks but I have found Clinique is one brand the color changes once I leave the store. I always sample on my arm and leave the store to be sure. I think they last don’t break or melt and have reasonable wear time. Black honey is very popular with my 27 y.o dd and friends and my sister wore this in the 80s!

AnitaCam · 20/08/2026 12:57

The Clinique foundations are SO good.. really excellent and the colour matches are sophisticated/ nuanced, ime they aren’t prone to oxidising, so worth paying à bit extra. I thought I’d treat myself to a mascara by them… nope, it flaked. Surprised they can’t get it right.

MyDriver · 20/08/2026 12:59

I used Clinique in the early 80s. I have a few things from them - lippie- but I don't think it's a quality issue- just the range of products. I find really cheap lip liners and eye pencils as good for well under £10. I used to buy the blusher bu the oblong pan is useless for a bit blusher brush. I agree about City block but read it was never officially rated for UV protection so stopped buying it.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 20/08/2026 12:59

Love the clinque mascara the comes off with hot water. Won’t use anything else.

I can't get a right shade in Clinique any more. Breeze is too dark and pink the others that are paler are too pale or yellow. Bobbi Brown and LOreal True Match are better for me.

I went to à dept store, they have a digital match device! They use numerals for the vitamin mu, in a range of cool, warm, neutral, for each tone.

Clique has just not moved forward, there is so many better out there,

depending on budget I’d recommend Charlotte tilsbury or Armani

if you have more to spend , go for Victoria Beckham the drops, it’s 104 pounds a bottle but it is unrivalled, I can’t beleive how good it makes my skin look, like my skin, but perfect, like you can’t work out what I’m wearing

my cleaner actually said to me yesterday, which was very disconcerting, as she came right up and peered at my face, pointed to her under eyes and Lower face and said what have you had done.

I was thoroughly confused and said what do you mean, she said your face, what have you had done, I said just have make up on, she said your face looks very beautful, what did you do to it, no lines, I said I’ve had nothing done, it’s just my make-up,

she then peered up snd down my face and said, no no, what work did you have done, I said I’ve just got make up on, that’s all, she said it’s very nice, I want to look like that, (she’s not from the uk) , I said um ok and left the room.

it was so disconcerting, my daughter thinks I should fire her, as she’s a bit crap and a lot free with the personal comments, but I don’t have the heart.

as much as I don’t feel complimented, just uncomfortable it is testament to how good her foundation and concealer is,😂

Oh god … is it you?!!! 😂 We will know for sure if you start asking about no7

It actually isn’t even though the Clinique/No 7 thing jumped out at me as well.
I can remember one of the last threads (taken down) where the poster in question got banned from Boots.
This is a different poster with actual, genuine questions.

Everyone always offers no7 as an alternative to Clinique, just to warn anyone very sensitive that no7 brings me out in a rash. Have gotten gift sets and an advent calendar and god help me I thought their foundation testing might be different but no. And I know they’re hypoallergenic etc but just a big warning.

I don’t get Clinique a lot but their cc cream felt lovely on although light was too light medium too dark so I’m out and none of their mascaras have ever made my eyes water

notacooldad · 20/08/2026 13:34

Clinique was my first brand I bought as an adult. I used to feel grown up spending a bloody fortune on make up when I was about 19!
Im happy with ELF these days!

3peassuit · 20/08/2026 13:43

SchnitzelAgain · 19/08/2026 17:59

It’s owned by Estée Lauder which is owned by Ronald Lauder who is a massive Trump donor, and the person who proposed buying Greenland.

I didn’t know this, thanks for the information. I won’t be buying Clinique again.

Thanks for clarifying, I was really confused by that comment you thankfully addressed as I just ignored it. Lol.

I won’t buy it as it’s not cruelty free. I used to like the mascara thigh

HughManity · 20/08/2026 17:34

You're meant to put it on your eyelashes, @WiseMoose.
