do you wear sunscreen every day?

I'm currently working outside a lot and I've been getting quite a bit of sun, which I guess in a few years time will = quite a few wrinkles. Thing is I've got loads of really bad pigmentation patches from my pregnancy which show no sign of going so I wear foundation every day, without it I'd look very strange. So my question is how can I reapply sunscreen if I've got foundation on without having to reapply the foundation all the time as well? the foundation does have an SPF15 but as I'm getting rather tanned it would seem that's not enough. Is there a good daily facial sunscreen I can put on just once a day in the morning?

i have been wearing clinique cityblock this year, but is rather expensive and would love to find something cheaper. how is superdrug stuff?

TheChicken · 27/06/2008 20:36

not tried yet

expatinscotland · 27/06/2008 20:40

yeah, HF, that's why i started using the sunscreen.

so far, so good because i could never afford dermabrasion.

HeadFairy · 27/06/2008 20:57

fishie, I always found cityblock rather heavy. Have they changed the formula or is it still like that? And didn't they only have three shades or something silly like that? I seem to remember having a terrible time trying to get a shade to match my face esp as I'm now quite tanned, don't want to look like Joan Collins with a face five shades lighter than my chest!

headfairy i put it more on chest than face! really don't like it, very claggy. but sun cream is also weird feeling. there is a fortune to made for a really good facial sun cream [starts boiling titanium and goats milk]

HeadFairy · 27/06/2008 21:24

I thought so... I know it's called city block but does it have to physically block shit out??? It's like wearing a mask, my pigmentation aint that bad! There is definitely a market for a product you put on your face in the morning, as you would a moisturiser which will work for say the next 10 hours or so.

actually i once had a face cream with titanium, it was excellent. perhaps i should try that again.

BecauseImWorthIt · 27/06/2008 21:33

As well as wearing sun cream it's also really important to wear sun glasses. Protects your eyes/retinas, even if you aren't too bothered with the sun - and also helps prevent wrinkles as you aren't squinting so much.

fishie · 27/06/2008 21:35

where does that leave people who wear spectacles?

HeadFairy · 27/06/2008 21:38

prescription sunnies fishie? Actually that one I do really worry about because of my mum's cataracts... they're most definitely the result of a childhood in the sunshine. I can't always wear sunnies because I'm filming so I have to look through a viewfinder, but I do try to remember at other times.

I had IPL treatments and do Obagi, so I have to wear sunscreen everyday, rain or shine, to protect my skin. My derm likes Anthelios lait 60 as a moisturizer. I also put it on my kids anytime we are going outside. I am neurotic about it.

oxocube · 28/06/2008 06:11

WATCH THE CHICKEN'S YOU TUBE LINK. I am/was a sunbather on holiday but that video is shocking Will be upping my SPF to 50 rather than the 15 I have packed for a couple of weeks in Spain.

girlnextdoor · 28/06/2008 07:57

YES!! And I think it works-people often think I am much younger than I really am 10 years younger !

I have used Clinique City Block for over 15 years- 365 days of the year- used to use Factor 25, but now use the factor 40- it is very sheer and I put it on under make up every single day.

They also do another Facial Sunscreen factor 50 which is very light- I slap a bit on too if I am going out in strong sun.

I ALWAYS wear make up and my foundation has sunscreen too. I know you can't "add up " the factors if you layer them, but I still think a bit extra helps.

girlnextdoor · 28/06/2008 08:00

ps- didn't read ALL posts- Clinique City Block is now DIFFERENT-very light- mind you, i liked it when it was heavier, as it gave a really good base for make up- like a primer. It is now very sheer and in only one shade- if you find it too pale, then you should also use foundation to give you colour.

lilacclaire · 28/06/2008 09:29

I always wear sunscreen everyday, I use it instead of moisturiser, I think it is No7 Anti Ageing Anti Dark Spot, its SPF 50.
I am casper white though and also a wrinkle nazi !
No 7 also do a tinted moisturiser with SPF 15, could you use that instead of your foundation and reapply?
Personally if I was working outside, i'd just slap on the sunscreen and let the pigmentation patches show through, people probably won't bat an eyelid and sun exposure could be keeping them there.

TheChicken · 28/06/2008 09:31

im glad the vid has made such an impression on you lot
a bit like me too!

will show to year 9 wiht gusto

SueW · 28/06/2008 09:33

I use sunscreen every day - have done for years.

Yesterday I went to buy to new foundation and was told I didn't need anything anti-aging . Nice to hear when you are 40!

I have some discolouration on my forehead which I think stems from too much sun when I was younger. It really comes out in the summer but disappears again in the winter.

My cousin grew up in NZ and always bemoans the wrinkliness of her skin due to being in the sun so much as a child.

saltire · 28/06/2008 09:40

I use a moisturiser with SPF 15 on my face,a dn always use sunscreen when outside in the sun, on arms, legs, shoulders etc.
I have prescription sunglasses as well.

wishfort · 28/06/2008 09:49

Gosh, just watched the vid. Have not been in Oz long and DH just starting to get interested in a tan. I'll hold this in readiness for the summer.

wishfort · 28/06/2008 09:53

Forgot to say; yes I wear sunscreen (spring summer autumn) sunglasses (all year round). When I do yard duty I wear a hat and carry an umbrella.

The backs of the hands are a neglected area in the sunscreen department. I must say many ladies of my age here are a teeny bit weatherbeaten.

TheChicken · 28/06/2008 09:54

an umbrella? farkign nora

TheChicken · 28/06/2008 09:54

the only thing I think might not sit with kids here is that they may think "oh I'm ok cos I don't sit on the beach in Australia every day" which is what most of those cancer sufferers had done. with our pasty northern hemisphere skin it's the daily exposure when walking around that does the damage.
