Help! Off to a wedding in an hour!

Leaving for a wedding in an hour. Non church wedding, casual ish venue (ie not a big manor or anything) likely to be fun and relaxed

No specified dress code

Its approx 400 degrees 🥵

Do I dress... smart, feel comfortable but very hot (trousers, shirt, jacket)

Smart, less hot but uncomfortable (linen shirt, tailored shorts, shirt is maybe a size smaller than id feel comfortable in)

More casual, but comfortable and less hot (knee length dress)

Please help, I dont do formal 😩

I am not a dress person either but in this weather I wear dresses as I can't bear a waistband.

You’re getting a hard time @Ihatedressingupnot all women wear dresses or feel comfortable in them. Just to say I like the dress in your picture.
If not just a shirt and trousers ? What sort of trousers ? If it’s a very casual wedding I don’t think a linen shirt would be out of place .

OP I’d wear the dress, I adore the whole “flowers with black background” look. Not because “dresses are more appropriate for weddings” but because it’d be cooler and more comfortable. I like my guests to turn up comfortable and in whatever clothes they most prefer, trousers/dresses/whatever. Especially when it’s hot.

I wore black linen culottes and a floaty black & white top to my BiL's wedding this time last year. Woodland setting. Perfect choice. OP, you know your friends. Wear what you feel comfy in, but add a photo for us later.

Wear the dress, feel the breeze, feel comfortable, congratulate the newlyweds, dance and enjoy yourself.

To respond to some points (however strange some of them are 🤨)

Couple are two men, and its not going to be a traditional formal wedding.

Just because im having a crisis of confidence clothing wise, does not translate to not being emotionally invested in the couple 🤣 Im pretty sure im invited to be part of their day, and as a witness, because of my emotional investment in them going back two decades (and my amazing personality, obviously) rather than my sense of style.

Linen shirt and shorts wouldn't be out of place - part of it is taking place on a beach

I would absolutely go for the shirt/shorts if the shirt hadn't come up stupidly small on the sizing. I ordered another one in a size up on weds next day delivery and its not arrived, hence my panic

Ive given myself a shower pep talk, found some spanx, and the dress is on.

Honestly - wear what you feel comfortable in given the heat. As you say they want you there for you, not your style!!

My vote is tailored shorts! Very cool and very in right now - just switch up the top. With a great pair of sunglasses and some nice looking flat shoes 👌

Your dress looks lovely. I noticed at pictures of recent weddings that people are wearing different colours of trouser suit yet in my area the day has got hotter. A dress is a cool thing to wear my ref being the wearer will be cool. I don't wear shorts myself but fair enough if some of you would wear them. By now the OP should be enjoying herself.

Just to update...

Tailored shorts on women as far as the eye could see! Lots of women in shorts/shirt/waistcoat combos.

But the dress was absolutely the right choice for me. Several people commented on it too. It was so hot, both at the beach part of the ceremony and in the venue afterwards. And the couple are of two cultures where dancing is a big deal in both, and there were "lessons" in both, it was very lively but brought the two very different cultures together beautifully. After my husband left to relieve the baby sitter, I spent most of my evening dancing with an 80 year old Indian grandad who didn't speak a word of English but had more energy than I did!

i went to one once where the groom was Greek and his family taught us how to dance the zorba, was such a great memory, especially seeing my late fil trying to get to grips with the slow steps getting quicker 😂

As a rule, I hate weddings. I'll avoid them if I can, otherwise generally leave when the reception starts. I also do not dance. Ever.

Yesterday was amazing though! So relaxed and full of amazing people. And I feel like I want to go and join a bhangra dance group now 😆

A Sikh will get you dancing every time. The bhangra is v forgiving.
