Do you have what could be called a 'uniform'?

I've been fed up with trends and what's in the stores for years, I don't suit most of it and don't much like it either. I don't want to be on trend exactly, but neither do I want to stick out like a sore thumb. I want to merge in, but have my own personal comfort and ease with what i wear.

I will be moving soon from a mountainous place to a comparatively flat place. There are hills but nothing like the strong winds and rain of Cumbria. I am so used to outdoor gear, waterproofs and leggings and have a good amount of high quality togs, but they will only be useful for hiking when I've moved.

I will be working in academia, museum related, 52 yrs old. And I will need to update some of my clothing as i have not bought anything in years. After pulling my head apart over this for a while, I came to the conclusion that I want to simplify in a huge way, so that I feel good in what I wear, and that it serves it's purpose, but does not involve a lot of fuss or thought.

I thought about Steve Jobs and how he only wore the black top and jeans throughout his career; mostly as a branding exercise admittedly (he chose Issey Miyake and I can't quite afford that!) but also as a solution for decision fatigue. And i kind of like this idea very much, scaled for a woman, and with a touch more variation.

Does anyone do this, like stick to a sort of uniform of reliable outfits? I would love to know more about it if so, and how you go about it! It doesn't matter what it is, I am just really interested in simplifying it all and choosing what works for me at a pricepoint i can afford.

High waisted long skirt with pockets (!) made from a pattern that suits me- linen/cotton in summer or heavier wool fabric in winter. Slightly cropped jumper: again same custom - made pattern copied from an original that fits well: wool / cashmere in winter, cotton in summer.

Barrel leg or toast Annie jeans.

Long single breasted slightly oversized coat - Harris tweed or wool/ linen in summer.

Even my footwear is quite repetitive - solovair in winter and fracap sandals in summer.

I am actually really interested in clothes; getting the colours and materials right is something I think about a lot when I'm getting things made ...but I'm happy to stick with this silhouette, in recent years. Not terribly exciting though!

My uniform has been floral button thru midi dresses, easy fitting, so room for a jumper in winter. Now changing to plain single colour dresses as I find them.
For individuality I indulge myself with lingerie. I know few will see, but I know.

Yes. Work is black straight leg ankle grazers with a vneck tshirt/top in autumnal colours like burgundy, dark green or dark teal and black ruched sleeve/3 quarter sleeve blazer.

Straight, loosish cotton or linen trousers. Black.
A variety of mainly plain tops in natural fibres.
Darkish, plain trainers.
Menopausal, so natural fibres are essential.

I have been on a mission to simplify my wardrobe and would say I'm mostly there. I have no pattern at all, only block colours so items are easier to mix and match. It's remarkable how many different combinations you can make with a relatively small number of clothes.

If I like something I'll buy it in multiple colours and I tend to go to certain shops for certain items. I have the same cotton t shirt from White Stuff in 5 colours, I have the Uniqlo airism dress in 3 colours.

I am very fussy with shoes because I have really awkward feet so I tend to wear the same styles a lot of the time.

Spring and Autumn I will wear jeans or wide legged trousers (Uniqlo) with trainers, cotton t shirts (White Stuff). Plus a cardigan when it's colder (FatFace or Weird Fish).

In Winter I tend to change my t shirts and cardigans for basic vests worn under one of 5 jumpers (Hush or Uniqlo). I'll also swap out my trainers for boots.

Summer is either dresses (Uniqlo or Roman) or denim shorts and my t shirts with sandals (FitFlop).

For work I do tend to wear dresses as it's just one item of clothing to think about. Chucking on a dress with sandals for work is easy in the summer and then in the winter I just add tights and boots. Maybe a vest or a cardigan if it's really cold.

Wide leg trousers and tight tee or vest for work. Usually a white top but have variations.
Ditto out of work with usually jeans/ wide leg joggers
Other uniform is what I wear to the gym- leggings and sports bra
I shop at gym shark for gym wear and Zara for other stuff with some bits from primark
and H&M
Works for me!

Yes. Every day, I wear a Superdry t-shirt, Fat Face jeans, and trainers.
I’m currently on holiday, so, I’ve been wearing Superdry vests!
