Can I justify £115 for a blouse?

Me+Em Swing blouse I bought a lovely cotton swing blouse in Monoprix when I was in France last year and the shape is lovely in this heat. I have been looking for one with short sleeves and a v neck and this is the only one I have been able to find. It's perfect but £115. I've tried searching using "cotton swing blouse" but nothing as perfect as this turns up. I am trying to rationalise it by thinking I will wear it a lot but can anyone suggest alternatives that are cotton, v-neck, short sleeve, and khaki colours? Up to £50.

Can you afford it? If yes, buy it. That's how I see it. Now obviously if you have a shopping addiction that's a different story. But occasionally buying an expensive item you love when you can afford it is not an issue in my eyes

Also you don't need anyone else's permission, just your own.

I have a Me&Em cotton dress I bought 4 years ago and which I’ve probably worn more often than any other item of clothing I’ve ever had. They are very well made with lovely finishing. If you can afford it I would buy it personally.

Not being married, I don’t even have to consult my husband before spending whatever I like on clothes …

I bought a jigsaw cashmere and wool sleeveless taupe sweater for £89 and have worn it soooo much. Every time I put it on I feel great! So I try now to only buy clothes that give me that feeling

There are many reasons why someone might feel they have to justify their spending. I have terrible trouble sometimes when I know I can afford it yet when I am shopping with my daughters I would quite happily and have done so spend a lot of money on clothes for them cos it looks lovely on them and want to treat them. Having said that I now buy something without hesitation if I see something I really love.

I spent £180 on a shirt recently and k wouldn’t never normally spend above £30 ish

It is linen, hand embroidered and from a country that really needs our support so I felt justified! I do wear it all the time so think it was a good decision.

I don’t consult dh on my personal expenditure, never have done. Why would you think having a husband meant you would have to?! Maybe it’s hidden in the vows…

I must have wasted so much money over the years on clothes I've only worn a few times. I'm much more particular about what I buy now. If I know I'll get lots of wear from an item I love, then I'll pay that little bit more than I'm comfortable with.

If you love it and the shape is right for you buy it!

I have never regretted any purchase I’ve made from Me and Em. If it’s perfect buy it.

20 years ago I was in Berlin and I saw a shop called Ulla Popken and the clothes were beautiful. Only recently one of the t-shirts got holes in it. Last year I replaced some of the clothes using eBay and vinted and they will no doubt last me years so sometimes I think it is worth paying for quality.

Glad you like the blouse, but I don't think the people who make the clothes get a huge amount more whether it's Primark or Me&Em.

The wages cost is tiny and it could literally be something like £1 per garment Primark or £2 per garment Me&Em. Will add up and make a significant difference to the workers but a lot of the higher cost will be other factors such as better quality fabric, better quality manufacturing so more labour intensive, transport, lower scale manufacturing, more expensive marketing, higher sales costs due to smaller shops in more expensive areas, even higher pricing to give the perception of better quality.

I spent £550 on a coat. I looked and looked for
something cheaper that ticked the same boxes but I couldn’t. Am so glad I got it, I’ve tried before buying things that weren’t quite right and they just didn’t get worn but I love the one I bought and price per wear makes it cheaper than previous failed attempts.
