Is expensive shampoo worth it? Recommendations?

My hair is a bit dry as I age, so I'm wondering if investing in a better shampoo and conditioner would be worth it, rather than the cheaper brands. Can anyone advise please, and recommend a good brand?

Just looked up Sisley shampoo and conditioner on the back of this thread - I was expecting Kerastase prices but it's much pricier. It has great reviews 4.9/5 on JL for the conditioner...might have to invest for 'research purposes '.

I just have the shampoo. It's supposed to be left on for 3 minutes for best effect. I was previously using Kerastase, again a little goes a long way. I expect my €70 Sisley bottle to last me ages.

Well, thanks to this thread I’ve just swapped my ( loved a long time but seems to have gone weird ) aveda shampoo for Sisley. Arrives tomorrow- I’ll report back.

Not really worth it ime.

I think my hair just needs a rest from its usual stuff but I’ll report back. My daughter has long thick wavy blonde hair and swears by KERASTASE but it does nothing for my black curly hair.

For curly hair I think Cantu is great.

Ok been using Sisley for a couple of weeks now. At first I noticed my hair looked shinier but not much else but now two weeks in complete game changer! It looks thicker, it’s holding its curl without frizz it’s easier to manage second and third day in, my husband ( who never comments on such things) told me my hair was looking lovely…total convert. Also added in some of the cantu conditioner and I think both are working together beautifully.

Neal and wolfe are excellent products and smell divine

I tend to use a cheaper shampoo but invest in good quality conditioner, leave it on for a few hours if possible the wash off, works for me

I use Joico moisture recovery shampoo and conditioner, I’ve got very thick coloured hair and my daughter uses it on her thick curly hair too and it seems to suit our hair type. My hairdresser recommended it.

@Ndd1356387 Your posts have been super helpful! I was aware that the parebens panic was unhelpful and resulted in preservatives with less research being substituted. And also that SLS is great for actually cleansing oily hair, but I wasn't aware that the substitute sulphates don't wash out as easily so that's good to know.

I used to use "green luxury" hair products like Aveda and I am still partial to them on occasion but can't afford it for an everyday shampoo. A lot of the enjoyment of using them is to do with the scent, sensory and just luxury feel, which I know is mostly marketing but nice to indulge sometimes if you understand what it is you're paying for.

Do you have any recommendations for mid range priced shampoo and conditioner for uncoloured fine and oily hair that needs washing daily? (the whole wash your hair less often advice doesn't work for me - my hair just gets more and more oily and having fine hair increases that). Hairdressers have used Kerastase before and its lovely but unaffordable, especially for daily washing, but maybe a L'Oreal product? I'm currently using OGX and it's pretty good but does leave my scalp a bit itchy so I'm vaguely looking about for something else.

Instagram keeps popping up Cornish seaweed shampoo, has anyone tried it? I'm half tempted, but it's expensive even with the offers

I love it. I have fine hair. 1/3 grey. Not dyed any more. My hair has never looked better. They often have bundles and offers on. Good products. I have gifted to several friends who also have like it. I know ‘older’ people are big customers.

But my other recommendation is stop over washing your hair, dye it less or not at all and use minimal heat on it (if possible). Your hair and scalp will thank you.

i bought some of the Cornish Seaweed shampoo & Conditioner last week, my hair is feeling thinner, I’m on WLI so hoping this might help.
