What’s happened to Vinted ?

Sizes all over the shop. Listings for 12-14 then when you search you see size 10,18, or weirdly an 8. Is it just full of folks running it like a business ? I miss the days when it was people like me who buy and forget to return stuff and you could get a bargain for genuine reasons and help the reduction of waste. I want a petite denim dress size 14 and spent half an hour wading through this nonsense. They’re either not petite or not 14 or not denim. Back to the charity shop I go.

I can't comment on what it used to be like as I held out from joining in until this year but, much to my surprise, I'm quite enjoying Vinted. After a few false starts and mistakes, I'm now only looking for vintage, mostly 1950s / '60s, and for the most part, the sellers I've come across are either fellow enthusiasts or they're clearing out their mum's / grandma's clothes and genuinely want to find them a good home. They don't get arsey either if you ask for more detailed measurements because they know vintage sizing is different. I've seen the odd scammer but they're easy to spot.

It's chaotic for sure, and addictive, and not as much fun as real jumble sales used to be but it's as near as I've got to one for a long time.

Ebay and Etsy are fare more orderly and professional but not nearly as enjoyable.

Vinted is so bad now and don’t get me started on their ‘customer service’. The worse thing is they say they’ll get back to you with a response in 48 hours and leave you hanging on for months

@Gingefringe honestly I hate ebay. I've had a couple of accounts over the years and the relentless spamming of emails from ebay just put me off. Not to mention the utter shit on there.

Vinted can be a jumble sale but I use it to mainly look for very specific items.

I find Vinted ‘cycles’ couriers. A few weeks ago Royal Mail was flavour of the week. At them moment it’s Evri. A couple of months ago everything was dpd. For ages it was Inpost It’s quite strange!

I really like vinted, the sizing thing is a bit annoying that it now spans 2 sizes but if I’m ever unsure, it’s not detailed in the description and there’s no photo of the label I just ask the seller.
I also generally use it to search for specific things that I wanted and they sold out or I’m I’m looking for eg a denim pinafore dress I will narrow down the brands that I usually buy from and it’s easier to find. I don’t really browse for fun and I’ve mostly had great success on there.

Vinted are using AI and it's artificial and not very intelligent!

It’s become really crap. Primark and supermarket shite being sold for £10, sizes wrong, people not taking photos of labels so you can actually see what size it really is. In the past month I’ve had 3 people just not post stuff and not reply too.

Yep same here, can’t be bothered to scroll through lots if things that have little to do with what I’m looking for, eventually finding it and seeing the size isn’t what I asked for.

I seem to get lots of overpriced things on my feed at the moment. Worn, slightly damaged uniqlo dresses for £40 etc (they would have been cheaper new). It's nuts. I have sold quite a lot on there this summer and also specify the label size in the title.

I can't believe so many people have things at home with labels still on ! I know we all have regret purchases though 😂

I do see things that are many are years old though! I once knew someone who kept labels , wore things and took them back. It sickens me.

However I have shifted a load of stuff this last year and am pleased they have gone onto a new life. I never used to buy at all but have had some amazing buys recently - a Hush dress, an Albaray dress, a cashmere cardigan, a cami top and a Mint Velvet waistcoat. All new.

Some sellers are bizarre. I put in a perfectly decent bid on a used M&S dress which I recognise from a collection which came out at least five years ago. The item had been listed for several months. The seller declined. Two months later, the dress is still there.

Meanwhile I trusted Vinted's price recommendation for a pure linen top (ultra-low, but I thought the algorithm must have an idea). I dutifully listed it and it sold within a minute, so I assume the price recommendation was off!

Yes I had this with something this weekend 😬 still better to get rid off.
Posts get a lot of attention in the first 24 - 48 hours then it dwindles. Sometimes you're better to take a good offer than holding out.

In the case of the low price recommendations when listing, I have learnt the hard way that before I list an item I always search for it in Vinted to get a better idea on pricing.

Oh dear, Vinted arrived in Australia this month.

I'm sure DD will get there first and report back as to how shite it is/isn't.

I think there is a ‘thing’ where if the seller cannot accept you postage options it just defaults one.

I had one come as Royal Mail when that’s the one option I don’t allow.

I’ve really gone off Vinted recently. Got an item with a big stain on it. Seller wants me to return it at my cost, despite photos showing the stain. Vinted no help. What’s the point of paying the ‘buyer protection’ fee?

I don’t use Vinted anymore because of this issue.

@HoldingOnForABuyer returns are always at the buyers cost though, that’s in the terms and conditions. The seller can agree, if they choose, to pay for the return but they don’t have to.

I know, but it just seems so unfair that a seller can knowingly sell a crappy stained item, and the buyer then pays for the item, postage and a buyers protection fee….only for the item to be crappy and stained. And then it costs the buyer to return the crappy stained item.
