Need a summer dress, bored of wearing shorts in this weather!

I want a dress that isn't frumpy but is "easy to wear" (just for weekends, about the house, or in the office which is very quiet at the moment and not at all dressy or smart).
Absolutely no puff sleeves or spaghetti straps or strapless or anything I can't wear my highly engineered bra with.
I also prefer jersey again due to large bust, and not at all slim waist.
I'm a busty size 14, 5ft 3 so maxi is too long but midi usually comes out maxi on me.
I keep seeing ditsy prints (feel like they will be too grumpy), polyester (yuck in this heat), or black or yellow (make me look dead). I'm quite pale so tend to wear navy, purple, blue, pink.

Please style me! It's not for a special occasion so not £100s but maybe £80-100 for something I'll wear a lot. I usually go to Boden but can't see anything I like.

Would this be too long? I am a 38D, so a lot bustier than the models here, and it looks nicely shapely on me and very flattering, even if I do say so myself 😁 Plus it has pockets!

I also bought this linen mix dress, but had to get XL (was in Uniqlo at the weekend feeling hot!)

Just bought both of those FatFace dresses. Am off to Tuscany in September cooking with a nonna all day but will need something for evenings. Also going to Jesus Christ Superstar in August so hope to wear one then

I’ve bought a stripe jersey dress from The Style Attic this year and a blue jersey knot side one from Next, I’d definitely buy them both again in different colours

I have just put a load of Next dresses in my basket (I keep seeing things on Vinted that look like they might fit but I'm not sure so think I will want to return them) so I shall add the knot dress!

The mountain warehouse crossover v neck dresses have a small bust and a popper which gapes open - deffo need to size up. They’re lovely though

Oh what on earth has happened here! I’m so sorry. I will edit my comment as much as I can! 😅

Both Weird Fish and Crew Clothing have jersey shift dresses which are really easy care and easy to wear. I too got tired of shorts and I like just being able to pull a dress over my head and be done with it.

minnowonthesay · 19/07/2026 14:42

I like this jersey dress too but I can’t justify another stripey one at £54.99!

Generous boob room and good length for this playsuit. I'm shorter than you.

White Company are normally good for this sort of thing too, and Pact. I tend to like plainer fabric and cuts, so these suit me.

I was also on the lookout for a new jumpsuit - I have a jersey one from Tu that's a staple but it's looking a bit tired. Are these ones easy to get on and off?

Easy on and off with zip at back. But top button is a little fiddly.

I’m not sure if these would be too long but I have this cupshe jersey dress in green and in black. Sometimes that brand is a bit hit and miss but I really like these. I think you can order it from Amazon as well so there’s more colour options there.

The 2nd link is new in (haven’t tried it but it looks nice and comfy).

Try Seasalt. You might have to try a few, though, since a lot of them look the same style but are completely different in fit when you put them on. So, probably only practical if you can get to a store. Try a 12 first, since they come out quite big. I recently got one there, size 8 petite, and I'm usually a 10. I'm same height as you. Also big busted with no waist.

drspouse · 21/07/2026 22:20

Ok so the scores on the doors are:
Next 0/10 (approx). All really odd shapes or look like sacks or both.
Joules from Next 1/1
Fat Face 2/2
Mountain Warehouse from Next 0/1

Everything is so LONG though and makes me look so short. And I chose mainly midi or petite or both. I had high hopes of some of the
Still to come: jumpsuit from WeirdFish.
DH complained the parcel from Next was really heavy.

Which dress did you get from Mountain Warehouse?
On the back of recommending the Orchid dress on this thread, I ordered the black one (hmm, and maybe a green one, plus a couple of Brakeburn ones via MW which haven't come yet).

Really pleased with the black one, reserving judgement on the green until I get the Brakeburn ones - I like it but don't need all 4.

I was of the same opinion and raided all my local charity shops. Very fun, had some great finds at amazing prices. I got a nearly new Phase Eight dress today for £2 in Age Concern!
