Not quite flat and perhaps not glamorous enough, but I think they'd be comfy

I hate kitten heels. They’re neither fish nor fowl - the impracticality of a silly narrow heel without the (somewhat dated) glamour of the stiletto.

These have an on-trend shape and are ridiculously comfortable. I chose them out of about 8 ordered pairs of shoes, none of which were as comfortable as these ones.

They look like you could easily turn your ankle, but felt really stable. I danced for ages in them and didn’t get sore feet. Absolute bargain too.

Apologies for the long link but I have a couple of versions of these and they are amazingly comfortable. Designed to be foldable ‘end of the night’ shoes I think but so pretty and easy to wear. I’ve had one pair for 8 years and the sole has just come unstuck after many miles of wear.

I can now only wear flat shoes following a foot operation, and it’s had a big effect on the way I see clothes. For dresses/skirts, I recommend maxi or midaxi length to avoid the frump, preferably with a bit of a flowing silhouette rather than straight or tailored.

For footwear, if you’re looking for something formal, a pointed toe with an ankle strap looks good. As well as the super-comfy Air & Grace, you can also pick up some designer bargains on Vinted - search for Valentino or for the Aquazurra lace up flats.

Spanish and Italian brands online are also good for styles you just don’t see in the UK. Check out:
