Which dress for a day in London tomorrow?

Travelling two hours by train for a hot day in London - a gallery and lunch out.

Which would work best - a long, airy linen dress, 55% linen, 45% viscose (but in navy) or the loose green dress (95% viscose)?

I think the navy.

For comfort id be worrying about chub rub and shoes rubbing. You may find trainers and socks are the best option, even if not the first thing you’d think of in 30+ degrees.

Having commuted in it for several weeks now…!

MinnieCoops · 10/07/2026 07:53

I’d go green. Linen looks like an old sack if you sit down in it for more than 5 minutes.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/07/2026 07:58

The green is nice.

If you’re near a lush or body shop or boots buy peppermint foot and leg spray. Very cooling and refreshing.

Screamingabdabz · 10/07/2026 07:59

Dark navy will be a killer, and linen is not that cool imo. I vote green.

I was better the other day than I thought in a synthetic long navy and white polka dot dress (very flattering and a cheap buy from eBay. Lasted til 10pm after work at a pub with dinner.

I'm a linen girl! I like how it barely touches my body if I've given it a good iron 😅

Go for the navy dress and put cycling shorts underneath. Birkenstocks if you have them, I don't care if they aren't on trend, the reason they endure is because they don't give you sweaty sandal rub!

emuloc · 10/07/2026 08:23

I would wear the navy dress.

yoyou · 10/07/2026 09:59

Tricky, not sure but thank you! I've got very comfy sandals that I would wear for both. Fortunately I don't suffer from chub rub. Not sure!

The navy dress is new and it doesn't look like it would crease too much as also has 45% viscose in it

I'd wear the green as it looks shorter, lighter (in weight and colour) and just less fabric overall.

TheyGrewUp · 10/07/2026 10:05

Navy. Sandals.

oviraptor21 · 10/07/2026 10:07

I think you'll be cooler in the blue because of the fabric and the looser cut. It will be nicer for sitting in too as the green looks like it might ride up just a bit too much and mean you would have bare legs on seats - but perhaps if you already have the dresses you could try that out.
The.blue also looks a bit more stylish if that is a requirement.

PaperAirplanesFlying · 10/07/2026 10:33

I’d go navy. It looks cooler and looser, and I’m not that keen on the green tbh, it’s a bit dated

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 10/07/2026 10:48

Navy for sure.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 10/07/2026 19:49

Yup navy. Wear a belt with it though!

Silverbirchleaf · 10/07/2026 19:55

I’d go navy.

I agree with this. I don't like the green dress at all. The navy looks nice.

OneNewEagle · 10/07/2026 21:05

Navy

Legomania · 10/07/2026 22:43

Navy. Maybe trainers instead of sandals? I wear sandals in and out to commute but wouldn't walk around London all day in them.

To pp, chub rub isn't a given!

cupfinalchaos · 10/07/2026 23:30

I wouldn’t wear any viscose in this heat I must be honest.

Sliperzzzzz · 10/07/2026 23:37

I sometimes find viscose cooler than linen - imo it depends on the specific fabric and how thick it is etc.

Don't wear a belt - prioritise airflow!

Bring a fan. And an insulated water bottle with plenty of ice.

OneMintBear · 10/07/2026 23:55

I also prefer the navy. It looks looser and so cooler and I also find the length of the green to be a little awkward.

mondaytosunday · 11/07/2026 00:14

The green as the other one looks dowdy.

Teawaster · 11/07/2026 00:39

I think the length of the green dress makes it a bit dated. I think the navy with a belt would be best but it might be a bit restricting in the heat . It has the potential to look dowdy too though .

Mauro711 · 11/07/2026 05:37

The navy dress is more stylish and it also has at least partially natural fibre. Linen don’t trap the heat the way that plastic based fabrics do.
