How do I cover up a mole on my back?

I love backless /strappy dresses but I’m very conscious of a prominent mole on my back so tend not to wear them.

It’s been checked by GP and is benign so no chance of having it removed unless I pay privately.

It’s raised so can’t be covered with makeup. I’ve seen a few cosmetic plasters on Amazon but I’m not sure how good they are - any recommendations for these or something else?

Is this your only physical flaw? My advice would be to get a grip and stop worrying about a natural human pigmentation mark. I’m sorry if this is blunt but (presumably) you are young, healthy and attractive. Honestly, no- one cares about your mole. I say that kindly - it took me a long time to realise my imperfections were noticed by me 24/7 but by others probably for about 15 seconds if that.

Um, no, it’s not my only physical flaw - I’m sure I have many. Please don’t imply I’m obsessing about my appearance, I just happen to particularly dislike this mole. Also, I’m nearly 50 so no, not particularly young either.

I find your response a little odd - you do know this is the style and beauty section, where people generally post for recommendations on products and techniques to enhance their appearance?

I mean, buy the plasters if it makes you feel better, but I suspect longer term you will feel much happier if you can internalise that genuinely, honestly, no-one else cares about your mole.

Everywhere you look, you will see someone with blemishes or defects, bevause humans arent perfect. Massive boobs, no boobs, acne, hair loss… I could go on.

I just find it really sad that at 50 you don’t feel comfy in your own skin 🤷‍♀️

Just don’t worry about it or keep it covered. We all have things. I have a massive scar on my back, no one will ever know as they are not going to see it.

The rest of me is overweight, I’m an 18, and not that great either but I don’t really care. I’m in my 50s now and I will be spending my summer in vest tops and shorts…..I never wore shorts before I turned 50. Now I’m just happy to be alive and wear whatever is comfiest. Make the most of your life OP, small imperfections don’t matter.

I have a nasty mole on my back I'm waiting to get removed. In the meantime I'm using JaySuing covering patches. I get them from walmart but I'm pretty sure they're available from Amazon. They hold up well in the heat with sweat and In the water.

Just had a huge benign mole ‘removed’ by sterex treatment, just below my eyebrow and causing my eye lid to droop. Cost me £50 and no scar. Watched it get bigger over last 10 years because the mole specialist told me it would need to be surgically removed, probably leave a scar, and would need to be done privately.

Happened across Sterex mole removal by accident about a month ago. Can highly recommend.

I would look into how much it would cost to remove it privately. It may well be much less than you think.
It bothers you and, really, no covering measure is going to work if it is also raised. If it is flat, you could use the type of make-up that is used to cover tattoos, but that would be a bit of a faff to apply to your back and might rub off or rub on your clothes.

I had a mole removed because it bothered me and I don't regret it. My dermatologist just shaved it off. There was a 6 week recovery time followed by several weeks of scar gel. It cost about £700 so I didn't go away on holiday. It made me happy and that was a good enough reason.

oliil4l · 06/07/2026 03:44

I can understand why it bothers you, but I wonder if it's much more noticeable to you than it is to other people. Most people probably wouldn't look twice at a mole on someone's back, especially if you're wearing a lovely dress. If you do want to cover it, maybe try some of the thin skin coloured medical patches rather than makeup, as a raised mole will always be tricky to disguise completely. But honestly, if it's been checked and is harmless, I'd try wearing the dresses you love and see how you feel.

I agree with this - I don’t know anyone without a few moles on their bodies (I have loads, even my 18yo has lots). Just been on holiday and there wasn’t a mole-free body there either. I would say having a mole is actually so normal as to render any moles you may have as unremarkable and thus unnoticeable.

As I say above - it could be gone in a couple of weeks using Sterex treatment, if you really want it gone.

Thanks to all who recommended products.

And thank you for trying to make me feel better about it - but I just want to clarify, I have loads of moles on my body. I just find this one particularly unsightly. No one has ever commented on it - but I want to cover/remove it for ME, because I don’t like it - not because of what other people might think.
