Teach me how to file my nails and neaten cuticles at home

This should be really easy as I have short nails and simply want them to look neat but somehow each one ends up looking different. And despite using cuticle remover they still look unkempt.

I don’t have the time or money to have someone else do them and think I really should be able to achieve a decent result myself. Give me some advice.

I recommend getting some decent cuticle cutters. Twezzerman are expensive but worth it. They’ll take care of any scraggly bits at the sides and the cuticles at the bed can be done more precisely. Then watching a few YouTube videos about how to file properly.

ETA a buffer also makes a difference. One with four different grains, each getting finer, with the final one being a polish.

When I kept my nails short I found trimming them with nail clippers made them
all roughly the same shape and I just needed a quick file to neaten them up and take off any sharp edges. I liked them to be straight across with rounded corners I think they shape is squoval.
for cuticles I push them back with a cuticle pusher and trim off any dead skin. im a picker so I make sure I remove any raggy bits otherwise I pick until the skin bleeds and my hands looked a mess.

I find Burts Bees lemon butter cuticle balm to be amazing stuff. I never need to trim my cuticles, just use this a couple of times a week after a shower and push gently into shape.

Don't forget handcream. There are plenty of good, cheap and effective handcreams so you really don't need to spend a fortune. Home Bargains is usually good for a cut price Nivea. Use it a few times a day and spend a minute or so rubbing it into your nails and cuticles.
