Have been dying my dark brown hair every 5 weeks for years now as am going grey and thinking about trying to find someone to do grey blending - but I don’t really want to bleach my hair… Has anyone gone through this process and/or could recommend a hairdresser in Brighton, Mid Sussex or Tunbridge Wells areas please who has done a good job blending grey?

I’ve not used him but I’ve been researching this as it’s almost time for me. ‘Josh colours’ in Brighton/ hove is very highly regarded. I think he’s at avery salon now. You can search him on insta and he has contact details on his page.

I had it done in January. I was very dark beforehand. Took 9 hours and cost several hundred pounds but I love it. I had it toned three or four times since then
Now at the stage where I have more natural colour than blended part. Still happy with it

Thank you both - I will look up that hairdresser in Brighton. Your hair looks great - was that done in the South East? If so could you recommend your hair dresser.

I'm afraid not, she is based in Leeds. I looked up grey blending specialist in my area and it brought up her Instagram page

I would say it does involve bleach though.

They removed as much of the dye in my hair they could.

Then she spent ages (and about 250 Foils!) picking out the grey hairs... the lengths were then bleached so the shaft was close as possible to the grey root.

Then, once bleached..those hairs had a toner to reduce the yellow blondy brassiness.

The toner lasts for about three months (depending on how often you was your hair). Then the processed bits go a bit yellowy rather than pale Goldy grey.

However there is no harsh demarcation line and eventually the oldest processed hair is trimmed off.

My hair was a bit frazzled but was manageable, it's is a process though.

I’m sorry to ask, but what exactly is grey blending? I have natural hair, no dyes, but the front is now quite grey and this is over the fringe and the sides of my short hairstyle. But the back is really dark, depressingly so. Almost no colour just dark! Considering I used to be very blonde, I’m despairing why everything is now dark or grey. Could grey blending help get rid of this?

I'm not exactly sure of all the processes but this lady explains it well and has some lovely videos.

Basically it works by not hiding your grey hair (dying it) and in my dark haired case, avoiding blonde or highlighted.

I definitely didn't want to be blond! I also didn't have the patience to let it just grow out and look like a badger.

It was kind of like a gentle grow out?
