Comfortable, stylish trainers for lots of walking with a toddler

I’m looking for some new trainers that are comfy but also don’t look like something an old woman will wear (I’m young). I walk a lot (not hikes) and have a toddler so I need something durable, comfortable and stylish. Thanks in advance!

I love my Skechers, when I used to work I could spend 8 hours on my feet and they were so comfortable and didn't need any wearing in time.

I'm an old woman. What sort of trainers do you think I'm wearing?

Women's Trainers & Sneakers

Skechers are comfortable and I had a pair about 25 years ago - they lasted yeats.
I find Asics comfortable, NB comfortable and durable (if you get the right width). (both brands 'ugly' but that's the look now)
Hoka is popular but I've not tried them.
Adidas uncomfortable but v. popular.
Anything memory foam is best avoided.

Years not yeats. I like bright colours (not pink or purple). Anything that is a trainer-style shoe is best avoided IMO.

Saucony are incredibly comfy. You could do a lot worse than getting a road trainer from a running shop. See also Brooks and Asia's. Anything with a slightly curved sole should do the job. (Fwiw I'm 51).

I been wearing Fit flop retro trainers. I have loads of issues with my feet. There's a sale on at the moment. They will be fine in dry weather. It worth looking at their other trainers there might be some leather ones. Just had an appointment with podiatrist- she rates Fit flop. Don't know how to do a link- sorry

Saucony are comfortable and durable. Those styles are retro ones so I begrudge the tech running shoe price tag. The R&D will have been done decades ago.

Some of the running shoe brands have styles aimed at the fashion market. They won't necessarily be comfortable or durable.

Converse are 'young' but not recommended by podiatrists because they offer no support. One thing I'm glad of at middle-age is that I've looked after my feet.

Adidas Gazelle Bold really comfy, pretty sturdy, I walk miles in mine. Lots of colours. If you google you can find other pastvseadon colours. Size up.

Sorry for the offence! My grandmas wear Skechers which are nice. I’m referring to the old fashioned ones you see in newspaper adverts etc. Do you have any specific types within those brands?

I’ve seen these and was tempted but I don’t know a lot about the brand. Might try them!

I might try Fitflop. I’ve not heard of Saucony. I used to wear Converse and Vans a lot - I need to look after my feet!

I have Adidas Gazelles but not the style you posted. They’re ok but not the best. The sole on the Bold looks better.

I have these is pink.Skechers Slip-ins: GO WALK Flex - Azriel | SKECHERS UK https://share.google/KtnWI3quVfQQi33lP
Can't find my blue ones on the website, I got them from the outlet so the may be a previous seasons style but they're similar to the latter, slip-ins with elastic laces.

Beachbeachbaby · 25/06/2026 20:49

Not sketchers!! Sorry just so so old people

alloutofcareunits · 25/06/2026 21:27

I find New Balance supportive and comfortable, 327s are comfy and I’ve just got some of the retro style. Not trying to offend anyone but I’m 58 and would not be seen in Sketchers!! There are plenty of supportive and comfortable trainers without resorting to them…

BleedinglyObvious · 25/06/2026 21:29

You didn't really offend me Smile
These are leisure shoes but British and colourful.

Skechers and Fitflops can be a bit iffy stylewise but you'll know if you like them or not.

I just look at a sports site and look for running shoes that are not ideally not white and are definitely not pink or purple. If they are orange, green or red or something, great.
Running shoes are a bit £££ if you aren't going to wear them for a marathon or something. If you are, don't wear them for daily wear.
