Wedding dress 27 year old

My daughter is getting married next March, she has asked me to go wedding dress shopping with her in a couple of weeks. It’s lovely she has only asked me but I am a terrible dresser and have no idea of current trends. If anyone knows what brides of 2027 would be wearing I’d be grateful if you could guide me. I think she has googled and has some idea, but as the only person there I don’t want to be saying I like / guiding her to dresses that are really out of date. She is size 10/12.

Is she expecting you to have the answers? I would say not to go by the trends but what suits her and speaks to her. What is her usual style? For example, if she'd never wear a strapless dress, her wedding probably isn't the time to start. If she isn't comfortable in something very structured or with a big skirt, then she should have something she feels comfortable in. She should look like herself getting married, not her dressed as a bride.

Also, depends on the venue and style of wedding. A massive meringue is a bit much for a 20-guest registry office do or a civil ceremony in a historic barn and so on.

I would not go with trends. I would go with what style of dresses she is comfortable in. Does she want to wear white. Does she want a full length dress. Where is the wedding. Do people actually go to wedding dress shops any more. Most of the weddings I have gone to have gone away from traditional dresses.

It couldn’t be easier for you to do a little scouting before the trip - every bit of info you could want is on the Internet. I’ve just googled ‘best contemporary wedding dress designers’ and these articles (amongst many others) came up:

https://www.countryandtownhouse.com/style/fashion/british-wedding-dress-designers/ (Really excellent.)

https://www.theweddingedition.co.uk/a-guide-to-the-best-bridal-designers-in-london/

https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/brides/a65536806/best-wedding-dress-brands/

https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/how-to-find-a-wedding-dress

If you read each of those you’ll be an instant expert on contemporary bridal design. But really it depends on finances and vibe: your daughter could pick up a gorgeous white mini dress from Topshop or Zara for less than £100 - or spend £10k on an elaborate bespoke confection that takes six months to make.

You'll never have another dress like the one you wear on your wedding day – and these British wedding dress designers are masters of construction,

Does it matter if it’s “out of date”? Surely it’s about whether she feels great in the dress she chooses.

@samantha9
Have a look on Pinterest.
I set up a page / board (not sure of the term) but it was really useful for ideas.
What's the budget?
DD bought her dress from Wed2b for £500.
At the appointment my advice would be to try different styles, ballgown, fitted, fishtail, mermaid and go from there.
I dont think you'll need to worry that you're a terrible dresser, you'll be able to tell her what looks nice /suits her.

I personally don’t think trends really matter in weddings dresses, unless your Daughter is big into fashion in which case surely she’d know herself what she wants?

Just have her try on anything that appeals to her (and always a good idea to try on a couple that don’t appeal on the hanger, because you never know!) and see what feels right! Have fun 🙂

I'd go a step further and say the best wedding dresses are timeless and avoid trends.

You wear it for one day: you keep the photos a lifetime.

Go classic and what suits her and don't even think about "Brides 2026."

I'd agree - it could be cringey to look back and go 'Oh God, do you remember everyone was doing sheer bodices? It looks so tacky now' or whatever.
