Clothing brands for larger busts and shorter torsos?

I'm 5'3, size 10/12 and have a 32G bust which is my main issue when getting clothes that fit. I'm also quite short waisted and find that most v and scoop neck tops and dresses are just far too low cut. Sometimes petite versions of dresses are slightly better, but not always. Even if the top feels OK, the petite cut of dresses can often be a bit short in length.

Armhole gaping is also an issue in sleeveless items.

Does anyone know of brands that are better cut for those of us with larger busts/shorter torsos? I can't believe I'm the only one!

Seasalt petite range.

You’re not the only one. I’m similar to you (just a bit shorter) and it’s such a struggle. Petite clothes don’t tend to be suitable for bigger boobs and tend to be dowdy. Then there’s the whole sleeve issue. Puffy and batwing sleeves make my boobs look even bigger, put me all out of proportion and do nothing for me. It would be so nice to be able to just buy clothes and have them fit. It’s pot luck as to whether anything fits. Hoping you get more responses. 🙂

It's even harder buying clothes fit if you're 5 foot, big boobs and overweight. I can't find dresses to fit as if they fit around bust too big at waist. I have to go for a skirt option.

@Dilemma999 thank you, I hadn’t realised that Seasalt did a petite range so will have a look.

@caringcarer @FarmersBlonde it’s really difficult isn’t it? I have two dresses and one polo style top that have zip up fronts and they’re great as you can bring the zip as high as needed whilst still keeping a v neck look. Also avoids any buttons gaping. I think the ‘distance’ between my shoulders and the top of my boobs is just too short!

I can get away with some scoop necks as I have narrow shoulders so they look ok. A woman I used to work with used to say my boobs started straightenunder my neck! 😂 I haven’t worn a polo neck style in years as it feels like they just look even bigger. Buttons are a bugger. I’ve just looked at the Seasalt petite range but it’s just not for me. I want skirts/dresses that are above my knee but longer than mini now I’m late 40’s. I don’t want or like long dresses, plus I’d constantly be dropping them in toilets or trapping in doors. It’s bad enough catching my sleeves on door handles and being yanked back into the room I’ve just left.

I can’t even remember anything that I’ve bought recently that hasn’t been a band t-shirt. It was so much easier when there was a Debenhams, John Lewis, Topshop, Warehouse, Oasis, etc in town. I’m fed up of ordering stuff and sending it all back. I never find anything in primark. Next is very middle class twee shite. H&M is like the land of beige. A lot of shops are either stupidly expensive yet still have cheap looking material, or just bizarre looking clothes. Bershka the changing rooms are unisex so I don’t bother going in there. I’ve yet to see one thing I like in Zara. I go to Meadowhall and just walk in and straight back out of shops. It’s all very depressing. At least I have an imagination and just pretend I look ok like I’m Anne of Green Gables. 😆

I’m 5ft 2 (and a bit), size 18 and have this dress. It ends just below the knee and is wonderfully cool and comfortable. I’m sure it was from the Seasalt petite range which goes up to bigger sizes than most shops petite ranges. I’m buying it in different colours as I like it so much. It can be dressed up or down too.

Fairlie Curved

HollywentLightly · 23/06/2026 17:46

I'm similarly proportioned and find Mango very good. Trousers and skirts need a good yard hemmed, but tops and dresses generally sit well. Also, boat neck tops are much better than v or scoop necks which make me look like the prow of a shop. Hard to find though. Petite ranges do nothing for me at all.

According to my mum, I have short shoulders. Even handbags are a nightmare.

Chaoticmonday · 24/06/2026 21:26

@FarmersBlonde that made me laugh - I think I have the boobs starting at my neck affliction too!

I hadn't thought about Mango actually so will have a look. My nearest Mango store has now closed and moved into a small concession in John Lewis so it'd probably need to be online. Never heard of Fairlie Curved so will take a look too, thank you.

It's interesting how we're all different- I'm short with large bust and I find Seasalt are a really neat fit when it comes to the bust/arm area - I have to size up at least twice for clothes to fit and then they look too large elsewhere.

Watching with interest,......... :-)
