Hi there,

I need to update my make up routine. I have tried the department store makeover and just get overwhelmed when they try to sell me stuff. Where do you get good make up tutorials and advice on what suits you? I’m thinking YouTube or something? Thanks

Try the Boots No 7 counter or look for Lisa Eldridge on Youtube.

There are probably lots of other ones but she's good.

Thank you. Last time I had a no7 makeover it looked nice but was very heavy. Will try lisa Eldridge. Would you recommend Victoria beckham make up? I had Charlotte tilbury lipstick when I got married but not tried any of her other stuff. I don’t wear a lot but have lost my way a bit. I’m 45 so want to look natural

I was going to recommend Lisa Eldridge too, she's great.

Nikkie of Nikkie Tutorials is also amazing. Her video The Power of Makeup is famous and has been watched 43m times.

And Tati is fab.

I have quite a lot of VB's makeup, and it's brilliant. It has rave reviews across beauty magazines, professionals, and customers, too.

I have Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, and I can tell a huge difference between those and my Revlon ones, and even my MAC ones. Hers go on really thickly and stay for ages, so you use less. Definitely worth it, in my view.

And you can't go wrong with MAC. I also found their makeovers heavy (I've had two) but you can always ask them for a natural look.

I follow Kate Hughes on instagram she does "mid life" make up im older than you but her less is more approach really works imo

I went through this a year or so ago. I like these make up artists on youtube: Lauriely Taylor and Nina Ubhi

They are great for 40+ make up.

And i got slightly obsessed watching this slightly older american Lady transforming herself through make up: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UNbRLpu5q4g

As for brands, I use erborian CC cream for a skin-like foundation and I love Hildun eyeliner. Otherwise e.l.f. is good enough until I find perfect other products (constant hunt).

Have fun....I love messing around with make up. Bloody love the stuff!

(I embarass the hell out of dd by turning up bare-faced to the airport and "sampling" all the high-end brands, which are way out of price range.)

- YouTube

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Would you recommend Victoria Beckham make up? I've not tried it but I've long given up buying premium brands because you're paying for the packaging. I find that brands like Rimmel, Revlon, Essence, Elf, Maybelline and No 7 have decent products if you shop carefully.

I've never had a Boots No 7 makeover but the lady on my local counter is good. I have had some Estee Lauder brands ones, a long time ago. I like Estee Lauder for foundation and concealer but use Rimmel and No 7. I don't like Clinique - it seems to not want to be on me for more than a few minutes.
With mascara, I wear the No 7 tubing one but Maybelline is good too.

As you age (45 is still young, I'm older) less is more and softer more natural colours look less harsh.

I love trying different make-up too.
Thanks for the Patti link @Flatinbed . I need those tips!

@teaandtoastwithmarmite , I was really just bumping your thread because it looked like a good question and was hoping for ideas.

These are great thanks. @Flatinbedloving you turning up at airports trying it on.
I think what happens is I run out of one thing that buy whatever I can usually on a budget but a couple of years ago I did get some Clarins bb cream which I don’t want to waste but is way too orange for my fair skin lol. For work I use concealer, the bb cream, powder from soap and glory, clarins blush (been complimented on that) mascara and eyebrow thing like a mascara for eyebrows. Evening the same except I have Estée Lauder double wear (nice but a bit cakey) and I wear Estée Lauder eyeshadow along with lipgloss or lipstick. I lost some weight a few years ago and when I look back at pictures ( put some on trying to lose) my face looks way too lined and overly made up. I want a nice healthy glow with some colour in the right places and don’t want to keep wasting money!
