Make up help!

I’ve had to bring my wedding forward two years as my dad has cancer and doesn’t have very long. It’s booked for September but due to bloody small budget and short time frame I can’t find a hair and make up artist to do it!
so the alternative is to do it myself. I’d like to look beautiful on the day, classic and elegant. I’m crap with make up - can just about chuck on eyeshadow and mascara and that’s it. Any tips on where to start?!

and eye brows! I don’t know what to do with them. I’m a redhead and they are blond. I struggle plucking them as it gives me a rash.

any tips welcome!!!

I'm sorry about your father OP

I did my own wedding make up. If you're not used to doing it, I'd suggest looking for tutorials on YouTube. You could type in wedding make up tutorials or even "wedding make up tutorial for redhead" and watch a few until you find one you like. You can get the products they recommend and practice.

Thank you didn’t think of YouTube!!

Don’t pluck your eyebrows!

I gather YouTube videos are the fastest route to make up expertise if one can’t afford to pay. Others will be better able to advise.

What I can say is that any investment in a weekly veg box and a huge increase in the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat - along with cutting out alcohol, sugar, UPFs - will benefit your skin and will probably mean you want fewer products.

I agree with PP you tube and tik tok are great for tutorials. I would also try a make up counter, they may be able to advise products and how to apply. I know at places like MAC (for a fee) you can book in appointments and they do your make up - would also be cheeky and ask if any of them would be willing to do your wedding make up I know lots of woman who work at make up counters also do make up on the side and may have availability for you

I did my own hair & makeup for my wedding (I am no expert!) and it was fine. My advice is to keep it simple & light. Practice lots as well!
I tried a beauty counter but the products looked different in natural light when I got home so I didn’t use them in the end.
My favourite make up now is from Beauty Pie & I just followed a video on instagram which was easy.
Sorry to hear about your Dad & I hope your special day goes well x

im sorry about your dad, it’s lovely you’re bringing the wedding forward so he’s there.

I did my own makeup when I got married after I hated my trial makeup.
I went to a Mac counter for a lesson first I think it was £60 and I got the money back to spend on products after the lesson.
the makeup artist did one side of my face in the lesson and I did the other.
i practiced a couple of times after the lesson and my makeup looked pretty good on the day.
I also did my mum and sisters makeup.

I had my brows ‘powder’ tattooed
without doubt the best thing I’ve ever done from a grooming perspective. Nobody can tell mine are done

If you live near a mac or Charlotte Tilbury counter they have a thing where you book a makeup artist (has to be in store unfortunately) and then you get the amount you paid in credit for items to buy.

@OrlandointheWilderness I also agree with the recommendations above -a big Boots store or department store like John Lewis sometimes offer free makeovers if you ask. One thing to warn you about, if you have sensitive skin (and even if you don't) - do NOT try anything new or drastic or unusual close to your big day! You've got enough time to experiment a bit now but not too much. IF you are going to try a different brand of makeup, cleanser etc... you need to try it now. I damaged my eyebrows when I had combi brows and really wish I had not. Spend a few moments looking in the mirror and acknowledge your natural beauty. For example, I bet you have lovely eyebrows that an eyebrow pencil would just help define - Find a friend who has eyebrows that you love and ask them to try doing yours many weeks in advance - if you're happy then you could ask them to do it on the day. If you're doing eyebrows yourself I think it can be a little bit challenging getting a perfectly symmetrical finish. One last tip... my mum who I stayed with the night before the wedding cleaned the bathroom with viakal - in the morning I started to use a face cloth and a towel which I'd hung to dry out - next thing my face was burning! BEWARE of any chemicals around the bathroom and the person who thinks it's a good idea to spray stuff everywhere. If you have any doubts about something - DON'T DO IT Finally, the night before the wedding - GO TO BED EARLY AND DO NOT DRINK EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL and set your alarm to get up with the larks - 6am at the latest.
