Hi all,

I’m looking to be pointed in the right direction of beautiful dresses for a black tie wedding (Jewish wedding, if that helps) please let me know of your favourite designers/brands that I could look at!

@PhaedraTwo I’m not. I know what 30
year olds wear and it’s not Phase 8!

Again you're missing the point when it comes to ageism, you often do.

I know you’ve a real thing about this, I often see you posting repeatedly on it. But the reality is a child dresses different to a teen. Who dresses different to someone in their 30s and 40s and so on and yes many brands do target specific demographics. This has been repeatedly explained to you. It’s clear you refuse ti accept it and will keep lashing out, derailing threads, but you will not change this, it is not ageist and no matter how many times you post it is, it will not ever be,

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 22/06/2026 12:53

@Cloudconfusion Thank you so
much! I agree completely.

Rixo do some lovely maxi dresses and can usually be picked up on Vinted too if your budget is more limited. Summer black tie is often more “relaxed” than winter black tie but as it is a Jewish wedding then I think you will be expected to wear a floor length/maxi dress which covers the shoulders and collar bones too. Some ideas for a variety of budgets, but can go higher if you want:

God, it's not bloody ageism to acknowledge that 30 year olds and 70 year olds tend to dress differently.

@PinkTonic it just means guests don’t change into evening gear! So no need for two outfits. Modern weddings just have a different take on their themes but far too many people are criticizing. The op just wanted dress advice, not posters saying the wedding she’s attending is ghastly! Who comes on a dress advice site and says that? Well we know, but it’s not kind or helpful.

Many Jewish weddings do start earlier now or there’s not time for food and dancing. It’s a timing issue when quite a lot is fitted in.

Edited

Again, I don’t need any advice or education on weddings and what is modern or fashionable. I commented because you accused someone of racism.

AbsoluteHoot · 22/06/2026 13:04

I’m eyeing up this for a black tie wedding this year.

minipie · 22/06/2026 13:29

Yy Rixo especially if bias cut suits you - so much of their stuff is bias cut!

Rat & Boa also - like Reformation they pop up a lot on Vinted as “worn to wedding” - even if you don’t want second hand I find it useful to see the dress on different body shapes etc

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 22/06/2026 15:09

@PinkTonic ok! No need to be quite so
superior. If I was Jewish, I would not want my black tie wedding described as ghastly. It’s uncalled for 100%. It’s perfectly ok for people to make a whole range of choices without any of them being called ghastly. I’ve seen similar said about large weddings being vulgar without any understanding that Hindu weddings, for example, might have 1000 guests. There is no place for such nastiness and intolerance in my view.

childoftkty · 22/06/2026 15:57

Jewish weddings are not vulgar and a Jewish wedding in a 5 star hotel will be fabulous. Don’t take your purse because you will not be expected to put your hand in your pocket, they always have a free bar and more food than you could ever imagine you could eat.

they’ll be very glam and you don’t need to cover shoulders or collarbone unless they’re extremely religious. You’re looking for long, slit and a fabulous blow dry. Rixo isn’t really the vibe.

Google Jewish wedding London hotel and you’ll prob find pics of the look.

I’m not being superior. It hadn’t been said it was an evening wedding before a pp said she would find it ghastly. There’s a world of difference between evening dress for an evening wedding, normal and expected, and black tie for a daytime wedding which is usually an unwelcome imposition on the guests (as is any dress code other than ‘wedding’) for the sake of an affectation. If we were invited to a daytime black tie wedding (vanishingly unlikely) my husband would ask why we were going in fancy dress. If we were invited to a Jewish wedding on a Saturday evening he would assume evening dress.

S25 · 22/06/2026 21:36

Gosh, this post has caused a lot of drama!
All I wanted was some names of brands or designers I could have a look into that have black tie/evening gown collections. I didn’t need to disclose my age, style, sizing, budget etc etc when I have not asked for links to dresses. I know what I look good wearing, I don’t need someone to dress me, just advise on the above. Thank you to those who understood that- I’m having a look through all the options now and there are some really lovely ones!

I won’t pay any mind to those who have been unsavoury, it says more about you than anyone else.

And for what it’s worth, it’s a Jewish wedding so as is typical it is taking place on a Sunday afternoon/evening and it is black tie as this is the wish of the bride, groom and their families.

@S25Im sorry people cannot focus on clothes but the very mention of black tie brings out awful posters. My DD is having a black tie wedding and you should see the vitriol I’ve received on another thread! It’s unbelievable.

So , what suits you? I did give you some designers but your budget will matter. Are you Net a Porter or Zara? My DD2 is exactly your age and DD1 a bit older. I’m very used to seeing the evening looks that DD1 pulls off - but - she earns a lot so I don’t want to suggest brands that aren’t right for you. So what suits you? Where do you like to shop? Do you want something for summer or just evening glam? Long or long midi? I can try and find you something with more clues.

mummybearSW19 · 22/06/2026 22:04

My friends daughters have found some great dresses on Vinted.

we are going to a black tie wedding soon and I found a Ralph Lauren dress on Vinted. I also have a back up from Club London.

Thank you. Yes, my thanks were directed at yourself for the most part as you recommended lots for me to look at which is what I was asking for in my original op ☺️

Definitely check the Outnet. That’s usually my staring point

MissBridgetJones · 22/06/2026 22:23

I have just bought this for a black tie wedding… it’s bloody glorious! House of CB Selfridges sale. I’m 46 and I’m no longer being a wall
flower!

VenusClapTrap · 22/06/2026 22:44

I would avoid The Outnet, especially for high value items. They used to be my go-to for stuff like this, but recently their returns process has become an absolute nightmare. I thought it was just a blip, but a quick google will come up with a lot of pissed off shoppers struggling to get refunds.

cathyandclaire · 23/06/2026 09:28

Good call mummybear - lots of Reformation and Realisation Par at DD's wedding - they all looked gorgeous- and luckily no repeats!
