How to get rid of facial hair

Newmummy343 · 21/06/2026 07:16

I'm in my 30's and I have the most horrible facial hair 😭

I tried getting it waxed but I can't let it grow out its horrible. Ive used hair removal cream but it doesnt quite get it all. I do fancy laser hair removal but it's just the cost of it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for it? Thank you 😊

Hi OP.

How many sessions have you had of laser hair removal?

I managed to book a package of 6 sessions and a year later I don’t have any hair at all.

Laser

Shoes232 · 21/06/2026 07:39

Dermaplaning and it doesn’t grow back darker or thicker

It doesn't last very long

Electrolysis. Laser doesn’t work long term. Electrolysis I did for 2 years and I had a full moustache and beard. I only have a couple of strays now. Need a top up though.

Well no it grows back.

OhBotherSaidPoo · 21/06/2026 10:14

Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal. It works well, takes a while but it worth it.

Is anyone able to recommend a good electrolysis machine to use? I want it gone i hate it!

I’m a fan of the Phillips Lumea for IPL at home if you have dark facial hair and pale skin. It does take a long time and it isn’t as permanent as electrolysis, but the hair can be short (so you can shave as much as you like) and I absolutely hate electrolysis so that’s what I chose.

likelysuspect · 21/06/2026 11:55

I had electrolysis, it grew back

I had laser, it grew back

Ive tried plucking, shaving, waxing, epilating. A mixture of the above

Worse thing is I now cant really see them but I can feel them and just cant get to them, if they're too short they wont get grabbed by tweezers or the epilator.

Then all of a sudden a really long black one is there and it literally wasnt there yesterday

Plus the mustouche grows constantly.

I didn’t do it to myself I went to someone qualified

Freyarw · 22/06/2026 00:05

I pay £650 for 6 sessions and it lasts just under a year. I waxed and shaved through my 20s getting folliculitis. I'd have started laser sooner if I could go back.

Slimtoddy · 22/06/2026 00:08

Doctor prescribed Vaniqa cream. It works for me. Not sure if it works for everyone but worth exploring. Massive reduction but not 100%. Probably 80% or 90% reduction.

My understanding is electrolysis is the only permanent method, but of course new ones can appear that you’ll need to get zapped. It’s important to find a good practitioner as a bad one can damage your skin. I’ve had mine treated, but I go back every 3-4 months to get any stray hairs seen to.

Oranjina · 23/06/2026 15:28

I had electrolysis on my facial hair, and I thought it was supposed to be permanent but it grew back!

I also had laser treatment at a beauty salon and it grew back.

Now it's a few years later, I did some research and also spoke to a dermatologist. I hadn't realised that the laser machine used and also the skill of the technician matters. I'm now planning to book some sessions at a clinic which is doctor led and with a medical grade laser machine. The dermatologist I spoke to said that laser can usually get rid of around 90% of hair after around 6 sessions but that I may have to have one off annual sessions after that if I have stubborn hairs.

So I'm hoping it works this time!

Another recommendation for the lumea, it has massively reduced my growth. I am a dark brunette with pale skin though, it's much less effective on blonde hairs.

I have had GREAT results with this home laser kit. Phillips. Wasn't cheap to buy but it got rid of my body hair and it's never grown back in much at all. Used it all over body. Id definitely go down that route if I were u.

I also use the phillips lumea and its amazing! I last used it in 2022 because ive been pregnant twice since 2023 and i dont think you can use it during pregnancy/breastfeeding. Anyway, i am
a very hairy girl. I got tested for pcos but turns out im just hairy like my dad and the rest of my family 😂 i think the only thing thats returned are my chin hairs but the rest of my face and arms are almost hair free

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 24/06/2026 14:33

Another recommendation for the Lumea, although it doesn't work on blonde hairs.

Saltysweetspicy · 24/06/2026 15:07

Philips lumea for dark hairs, for peach fuzz on my face I use a braun epilator (yes it does hurt a little but you get used to it)

WhoGivesACrepe · 24/06/2026 15:23

Laser- it literally NEVER comes back, decades later and I only ever get the odd hair that needs plucking. Far cheaper in the long run than any temporary method
