Nighty for surgery

pogostick · 18/06/2026 22:08

I need a nightdress. Well 4 probably.

I am having surgery and will be in ICU for possible 2 days and in hospital for about 2 weeks.

Think drains, leaking bloody dressings. Tube in the nose. Possibly projectile vomiting.

Sweating like a pig.

Apparently need a ‘nighty’. I sleep in pyjamas.

So, cotton, must cover knees, not tight.

Go.

I have no suggestions, but wanted to wish you well OP

Oh that's a long time . Hope you recover well . So cotton nightdress ? Where else but M&S ? . If you have time though TKMax have huge nightwear sections .

Duvetdayneeded · 18/06/2026 22:15

What about a massive T-shirt? Good luck!

Specialagentblond · 18/06/2026 22:17

Something cotton, short sleeved with button front I think.

wish you all the best and a good recovery.

Bebeemerald · 18/06/2026 22:17

whek I gave birth I got them from M&S but pretty much most major retailers will have them.

Why will you be projectile vomiting? Can they not give you anti emetics.

good luck

I’d go for a maternity nightie. It’ll be longer than usual nighties and not tight. I got mine from boohoo - cheap as chips. But sure there will be lots of options. I still wear mine!

I had black button down ones from Primark for post abdominal surgery. They were just below my knee (I’m 5’6’’) and came in short and long sleeve options. I was happy to bin them afterwards, under £10 each.

Podcastonsounds · 18/06/2026 22:35

When i was in itu/had multiple surgeries and drains etc my mum went to primark and bought about 6 button fronted nighties. Have a few a size bigger as you may swell with fluid (same with knickers). If you have button fronted when you are in itu the staff can put them on easier by rolling you rather than over the head also more dignified if they need to do monitoring. You'll need plenty so you're family can wash them.
Best of luck with the surgery.

You’d probably be better off with gowns for the time you’re in icu. I had short & t shirts when. I had surgery

SquirrelGG · 18/06/2026 22:57

I recently spent 8 days on a general surgery ward and most of us just wore hospital gowns.

mumumental · 18/06/2026 23:02

Cyberjammies or M and S . Sometimes John Lewis. I like the CJ ones best.

These are the sale items, if you’re looking to not spend much on it:

Primark button front nighties are about £10, get them 2 sizes bigger than you are. 100% cotton, dark colours are the best for hiding any stains/blood etc

Just repeating what’s already been said really- maternity night dresses are the best. But also, after my recent surgeries I just stayed in hospital gowns anyway. I was happy to bleed my way through them and not have to worry!

SideboobToYouToo · 18/06/2026 23:14

I'm fairly sure they'll have you in hospital gowns,I've been in ICU and you don't get a choice.

ChipswithMayonnaise · 18/06/2026 23:20

💐💐💐 hope all goes as well as possible.
Front buttoning nighties or ones which you can have altered to open all the way down the back are the way to go. Dusters, housecoats. Nothing that involves pulling clothes over the head.

You might also want flannels/washcloths, some lavender or peppermint or other calming essential oil to sniff instead of hospital smell, lip balm, moisturiser, hand cream, and a water cup and coffee cup with their own bendy straws. A wrap or light blanket and socks for body temperature fluctuations. Snacks, if allowed. Extra phone charger/power bank; extra ear buds. Sleep mask.

Hospital gowns really are the best.

Freda69 · 19/06/2026 10:00

Hospital gowns to start with when things are messy and then anything cool for later on.
Ear plugs and an eye mask really help.
Hope it all goes well xx
