Cleanser for suddenly sensitive skin

I love me a balm cleanser but cleanse and polish- well, it’s just not the same now. Been using the moringa one (Emma Hardie?) for a few weeks and suddenly my face is bright red. Two days in the trot. Face wash is ok but I like my make up taken off with a cloth.
my moisturiser etc isn’t making it red, just the cleanser. Any recommendations. Perimenopausal so everything is going to shit

Ugh sorry about the giant Amazon link

Thank you ! The oat one or the foaming one ? Oat one says doesn’t remove make up but sounds more gentle?

I’d recommend Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, it’s calming and really gentle. Emma Hardie has essential oils which has probably irritated your skin. Don’t use any actives for a while

The oat non foaming is most gentle. It does a decent job of removing make up for me. It's lovely. Also highly recommended the oat gel moisturiser from this range, it's heavenly and very soothing

When my skin is really sensitive the only thing I can use is Dermol 500, which you buy at the chemist. It’s pretty bland and boring- but I guess that’s kind of the point! It was initially prescribed to me by a dermatologist. Anything else, even if it’s apparently “sensitive skin friendly” can make my skin react.

Simple cleansing oil.

Have been using it for years on my sensitive skin; much easier to get off again than the Emma Hardie. And is often half price in boots, making it about £3!!!!

I’ve tried a lot of cleansing oils/balms and it’s still my favourite, plus it’s so cheap you can use loads

It’s also great for getting my kid’s waterproof SPF off

La Roche Posay Toleraine cream cleanser.

I'm with @Twosheep about the Simple Cleansing Oil. It gets everything off and will wash off so you don't need a cloth if that feels too much on sensitive skin. For years I used Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser but I think it's got a different formulation now.

Oh god OP I’ve just been through this I’m 54. Upcircle oat cleanser and the organic sage toner from Aveda works for me

SoapCollector · 18/06/2026 21:32

OP - When my skin is sensitive (most of the time with peri menopause!) I use a plain oil like almond or coconut remove it with a damp face cloth or damp cotton wool. The first couple of ingredients in the Emma Hardie balm are grape seed and almond oil.

I’ve never had sensitive skin before so this is quite the shock ! I’ve had bits of rosacea which skin and me kept under control (the pustules went and just some redness remained ) but I darent use it at the minute !

I have sensitive skin (lupus) and Avene cleansing milk and their toner are really good. Otherwise La Roche Posay Toleriane.

Kungfoopanda · 20/06/2026 22:09

Have you tried Clinique take the day off? I’ve used it for years and it is very gentle - although I don’t have sensitive skin it takes all makeup off and is kind to eyes etc so might suit you?

Geek and gorgeous mighty melt

Floisme · 22/06/2026 07:06

Another vote for almond oil and a wet flannel
