How to dress for new body shape

Confuzzleduzzled · 16/06/2026 10:59

I previously had big boobs 32H, big bum and thighs but a relatively smaller waist.

Due to breast cancer surgery and over eating due to stress of surgery I now have smaller boobs 34E and a much bigger belly. Still got giant thighs and hideous knees.

I have no idea how to dress this shape especially for a summer holiday

Any ideas or links would be much appreciated.

There will be lots of stuff online if you google ‘pear shape/ apple shape’ whatever you are.
its not clear from your original post

I think the problem is that I don’t know what shape I am. I seem to be an apple and a pear with big boobs.

A lot to unpack here, OP. You have just been through a lot, and now your body doesn’t grow & shrink on the patterns it used to. I can appreciate how you may be feeling unsure about your shape and style after all that.

I know it gets recommended all the time on here, but are you close to a John Lewis? A stylist appointment is free, and even if they show you a number of things you think are too expensive you can still take note of shapes, styles and how to put recommended items together. I suspect you could stand a bit of being looked after right now!

@Confuzzleduzzled if you’d still like some help it might be better if you simply give your current clothing size (or upper and lower if they’re different).

And a budget.

I suspect it would be easier if you begin by looking for nice clothes - and then see which you’re most comfortable in.

If your concerns are mostly about belly/thighs/knees, I would start by looking at holiday dresses which fit around the bust with a slightly high waist - sort of empire line, but not too much so - or dresses which float and skim down from the shoulders.

I had a similar bust size change after BC, and suddenly found that my previously huge boobs had been lifting clothes out and away from my body, whereas the smaller bust size meant clothes accentuated and clung to my belly and bum. So it did require a whole rethink.

Some examples of the empire line style:

Thanks everyone.
@RayonSunrise thank you for your kind words.
@ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub I think I’m a 14 top and bottom. I know I’m not huge but I’m a size bigger than last year and need a whole new wardrobe so I don’t have a big budget.
@MadameBethune thanks. That’s useful. I did find that tops that used to skim over my belly due to my boobs now cling more. I think the empire line option sounds good.
