What would you wear with this dress?

Before I buy this navy lace dress from Vinted, so can’t try it on to experiment ….

i have similar in black and love it. I wear with opaque black tights and black ankle boots.

I love this navy version but not sure what I would wear on my legs and what footwear? I don’t like very high heels but ok with a bit of a heel.

This would be too hot for me at this time of year so would be looking how to wear it at cooler / colder times is the year.

I believe pictures take a while to come through now so bear with me if picture not there yet

What would you wear with this dress?

I would think some bright accessories would be useful maybe a pink or red bag and a necklace in a bright colour . It looks like a useful dress to have.

Overtheatlantic · 16/06/2026 10:07

I would wear chocolate brown suede boots with a low heel and gold earrings. The lace provides all the texture needed.

OMGitsnotgood · 16/06/2026 10:30

Thank you. I am wondering more about what colour tights / boots as the black version looks great with black tights / black boots but finding the right colour blue in both is a bit of a challenge. I wouldn’t have thought about brown with navy but can see it might work. The black similar dress has proven extremely useful hence considering thw navy

It’s a nice dress. I do love a bit of navy but I agree it’s hard to accessorize. I’d go for a low heeled tan leather boot (either ankle or one that is under the dress).

Pearlstillsinging · 16/06/2026 10:38

Pale blue would look good with the dress. You could wear pale blue opaque tights with matched shoes, or even long/ankle navy boots

TheOriginalFrench · 16/06/2026 11:02

It’s going to be quite short, it seems? It’s a rather dated shape so I would want to put the very latest style of knee high (or over knee) boot with it. Glossy black for preference. I don’t think it matters whether flat or with a slight heel - you’d have to experiment to see which you liked best.

I suspect it would look dowdy with any tan leather boots. And the proportions really wouldn’t work with ankle boots.

Assuming it’s quite figure hugging (?) I would personally avoid adding anything ultra-feminine like brightly coloured jewellery or pastel tights / shoes. It needs leather or suede in sharp, structural shapes.

OMGitsnotgood · 16/06/2026 11:08

I’m really not interested in what is the latest fashion or whether it looks dated - I feel great in the black version - ii just find it hard to decide on footwear/tights.

I think over the knee always looks like a pantomime actor! ESP if there’s a noticeable gap between the boot and the hem

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/06/2026 11:41

Navy is defo a tricky colour to style I think. I’d go tan/shades of brown tights, ankle boots and/or knee boots.

smilesy · 16/06/2026 13:03

As you like the black tights and black boots look with your other dress, why not go for navy opaque tights and boots? Just make sure you choose a shade of navy that doesn’t “clash” with the dress. It doesn’t have to be exactly the same, just not too bright or too dark iyswim

theemmadilemma · 16/06/2026 13:47

Caramel tan and a light beige are beautiful colours with a navy. I would probably err towards a bare leg tight, or navy.

Marron/burgundy would work too.

WhatToWearMilan · 16/06/2026 13:55

Burgundy or plum
Or just go with black - black & navy is v chic especially as that's a brighter navy

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 16/06/2026 16:23

It’s a bit short. Neutrals would work. Or a pale blue, or pale grey.

Sidebeforeself · 16/06/2026 17:33

Sorry ..Ive just seen how short it is! Yeah my previous suggestion wouldnt work with that length. Maybe just good old thick black tights and a low black heel.

Navy tights and boots would be ideal but it’s so hard to match navy shades, unlike black.
pp mentioned black tights and boots with the navy dress, is that a thing now? I always thought black and navy were to be avoided?
I’m wondering whether I just buy the dress and try a few things and resell if they don’t work. Which I was trying to avoid but maybe that’s the only answer

I wear burgundy a lot with navy in the winter. If you love the dress I would get it and experiment with tights/shoes. I think it can be hard to envisage properly out of season.

I know what you mean, but I have worn slightly different navy tights and skirt and as long as it is the same “family” of navy, it works ok. It’s a bit hard to explain 😆. The burgundy is a good shout though. I personally am not keen on navy and black, unless the navy is not too dark. Otherwise it looks a bit like you don’t realise the dress was navy

BIossomtoes · 17/06/2026 08:48

Navy and black is definitely “a thing”. It was my mum’s generation that had silly colour combination rules. I’ve worn navy and black together for years.

Chipsahoy · 17/06/2026 08:54

I love navy and it suits me so well but I really struggle with the boots and tights combo too. The right navy, maybe a little more blue to it, can look good with black tights and black boots. I would wear navy tights and boots if the dress had another colour in it but when it’s straight navy it’s so hard to get it right.
I realise that’s no help whatsoever!

Have to disagree. I think pale blue opaque tights would look absolutely horrendous.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 17/06/2026 22:03

Can you even buy pale blue opaque tights?

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 17/06/2026 22:05

I love black and navy. I think it looks great. Deffo not navy tights.

coronafiona · 17/06/2026 22:18

I have navy tights and ankle boots, they are very useful
