How are people getting such bright white teeth these days?

Apologies if this is a stupid question. But I feel like all these youngsters around me have beautiful pearly white teeth. What are they doing to achieve this?! Is there a magical product I’m not aware of? Is it a procedure at the dentist that costs £££?

I’m not talking Turkey teeth. Just their normal teeth but so icy white they are almost blue…

I have noticed this too and would love to know how it is done. I keep thinking about getting my teeth professionally whitened but then another unexpected cost comes up and I put it off again…and again…and again

Macmin · 14/06/2026 22:31

Not at all a stupid question.

I bought whitening gel on two occasions from http://www.directteethwhitening.io/
and searched specifically for carbamide peroxide gel 16%. I tried 20% and it was too much for me (my teeth became too sensitive).

I have trays already as I straightened my teeth with Invisalign a few years ago.

To clarify, I’m not promoting that particular site - it’s just what’s worked for me. Have you ever whitened your teeth before?

blankcanvas3 · 14/06/2026 22:41

Crest whitening strips. I order them from America

Macmin · 14/06/2026 22:57

I’ve tried them yea.
I found the gels I mentioned much better. £34.99 for double the amount I’d need to whiten my teeth.

Leopardprintbikini · 14/06/2026 23:07

Not drinking coffee and red wine, not smoking, taking better care of their teeth as the dentist is so expensive.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/06/2026 23:13

I had it done via my dentist, so he had the trays made to fit my teeth and then I got about 6 weeks worth of gel which I had to put in the trays and then wear overnight. I’ll be honest- the sensitivity nearly drove me mad- it felt like there was a constant low level ‘buzzing’ in my teeth- hard to describe! Because of that I ended up stopping the treatment a week or so early but I was very happy with the results I had got at that point. Mine are not the bright icy white you’re talking about, but they are much brighter than they were which has improved my confidence. At my age (nearly 50), I think very white teeth look obviously fake as teeth do tend to gradually discolour with age.

I did mine about a year ago and was so chuffed with the results, I definitely smile more now! I want to do a top up treatment at some point (probably just a week’s worth) but I’m in no rush as I’m dreading the sensitivity so I feel like I need to psych myself up for it 😩

oliviaAustin · 14/06/2026 23:20

My dentist gives me tubes of whitener to use in my retainer. £50 or so a tube. Alongside composite bonding on my top 8 and a hygenist deep clean twice a year.

FebruaryUsername · 14/06/2026 23:23

A lot of people I know have no prep veneers or bonding on their teeth.

Olive42 · 15/06/2026 06:02

I am not sure how youngsters are doing it as I am 48 but I have used Crest White Strips and found them to be really effective but as they are banned for sale in the UK (I think), I got a bit worried and only used them once prior to a wedding. Maybe they are too strong? Someone else might know.

I used this tooth whitening powder twice a week for about six months. Now much whiter. Might repurchase soon. If you do use it, be mindful of using regular higher fluoride toothpaste too as I don’t think the powder has fluoride? I checked put the ingredients and it doesn’t seem to damage teeth and I do have sensitivity issues so need to be careful. Caveat: I am not a dentist/hygienist. 😆 All I know is prior experience I using them once powder, my dentist used to suggest whitening and now doesn’t.

Electric toothbrush is what worked for me.

Iocanepowder · 15/06/2026 06:13

I used my birthday money this year to get them whitened at the dentist. Been wanting to do it at the dentist.

I look like total ass otherwise, no makeup, tired, ridiculous hair, shit clothes. It was a treat to myself.

My friend gets the Crest strips from America.

OP, the Crest whitening strips are the best I have ever used!

escalaopes · 15/06/2026 06:49

I don’t have gleaming white teeth but mine have massively improved since I got an electric toothbrush.

It is illegal to sell in the U.K. , EU and many other countries anything over the counter that contains more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth, so all the products mentioned in this thread are illegal.

Indeed the gels mentioned are illegal even for dentists to use in this country.

So if you buy any of these products you will be buying from criminals. , knowingly breaking the law , so have no guarantee what you are buying is safe, genuine and is what it purports to be. https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/why-you-need-to-be-wary-of-home-tooth-whitening-kits-aTig20L4lJpb

Why you need to be wary of home tooth whitening kits - Which?

Home tooth whitening is big business, but legally these kits can contain only a tiny amount of active ingredient, while some dodgy ones sold online contain far more than is allowed

The mysweetsmile powder mentioned above does not contain peroxide (I'm not shilling for them - I haven't actually tried the stuff. I've just been thinking about it and interested to hear others' experiences)

My dentist’s gels contain carbamide peroxide. Which is a little different. Also - dentists are allowed to provide gels containing up to 6% peroxide and as it’s being supplied by them and the effects monitored this is considered to be used under supervision (even if you’re applying it at home). Dentists are explicitly allowed to use higher %s.

It’s basically very expensive chalk. It doesn’t whiten it rubs away stain.

Jamesblonde2 · 15/06/2026 18:45

Composite bonding. All the rage apparently. Some will be paid for on the never never.

Dentists are but they are not allowed to use 20% hydrogen peroxide (6% carbamine peroxide is equivalent to 18% hydrogen peroxide) let alone 20% carbamine peroxide which is what one poster was advising . This is a level which would cause severe damage and poster admitted their teeth were too sensitive afterwards.

How do you order? I have just gone on Amazon USA and all the crest strips say they can’t be shipped to my location.

ohhhhnnnoooo · 15/06/2026 21:24

A decent electric toothbrush and some arm & hammer. It tastes horrible though!
