How are belted safari shorts meant to be styled in real life?

I have just bought these shorts and they fit great.

The belt is really long, I can wrap it round at least one a half times. It’s too short too be tied in the knot, I have considered shortening it, so it ends after the first loop. But like the neat seamless look that is shown on the model. Wherever I leave the tail, it looks untidy.

Then, I started looking back at the product listing and designer alternatives, they all show an endless belt, straight across the from and the back. Another example below.

I guess it’s styled like this to look good on a photo, but how do I wear in real life?

I think with one of those guns that has a trumpet end and sporting a curled moustache

I see what you mean. I reckon photoshop may have been used in creating those photos to get rid of the tail. (well these days it’ll be AI).

The better versions of belts, especially fabric ones, have a little fabric loop you can slide along to hold the tail neatly, wherever it ends. Assume this belt doesn’t?

Pink Tshirt, purple backpack and a bob

LoopingTwice · 14/06/2026 21:41

@minipie No, it does not. I have tried them with my two black leather belts, I do not usually wear the fabric tie belts, but this is different, it’s sturdy, well made and looks the best, I really want to make it work.

I would secure it with a blonde hair bobby pin round the back out of sight

LoopingTwice · 14/06/2026 21:58

@Doggymummar that’s an interesting idea, I have a slide pin, see if it works following same logic and may get a pack of bobby pins.

You could also use a blonde hair elastic.

Qualitypinnacle · 14/06/2026 23:13

You could shorten it at the buckle end so it wouldn't look like it had been shortened
