Jacket to go with this dress

I'm a wedding guest in a few weeks and intending to wear this dress (photo hopefully works) which I already have but I'm not sure what sort of jacket or cover up to wear with it - can anyone give me some ideas please?
I'm just going to the evening do and travelling there on public transport so really do need something in case it's still a cold summer!

I’m no style guru but I think a shorter jacket would work such as a leather bomber. Short fur would also work but wrong season! Or a shawl just to cover up when travelling. Nice dress btw!

I must be missing something but surely the most appropriate jacket or coat is whatever is weather and public transport appropriate? You won't wear the jacket at the venue so anything to get you from A to B which will keep your dress clean and dry.

I would go for a lightweight, pale coloured trench coming to just below the knees.

@PhaedraTwo my coats selection is limited to a big winter one and dog walking scruffy jackets. I don't have anything that's smart enough to go with this so I was looking for some ideas of the right style.
Thanks @Blanketyblank04 I will look for a bomber style

Personally I wouldn't attempt to find the right style for the dress and would get a smart non puffa, non hooded, non nylon raincoat at least as long as the dress.

Perfect. I don't think any jacket is going to look great over that dress.

The sleeves of the dress have not been designed to be worn under a jacket. So it’s surely pointless trying to find one to go with it.

A cropped cape might work.

I agree with those saying the dress isn't made to go with a jacket, so I would just be trying to find something weather appropriate. If you chose the bomber shape, but the weather was the high winds we've been having, then your hands will be kept busy. Trench is the answer I think.

This is the dress.

There is absolutely nothing about the sleeves which prevents a coat being put on top.

Thanks for the all the suggestions of a trench coat, this one seems like a good option
