Where to find nice 18kt gold studs?

Hi all,

Which jewellery stores would you recommend for gold studs please?

I've looked at Monica Vinader online but they've not quite got what I want. I would like something smallish and possibly plain, or with a gemstone.

I don't usually 'do' jewellery so I'm unfamiliar with what's around these days.

Thanks!

I find independent shops are better than the 'high street' ones, which only tend to stock 9kt.

Thanks, yes I'm sure you're right. I looked in H Samuel and a couple of others a while back and was not inspired.

Do you know any online ones I could maybe have a look at? I don't have much time to browse in town unfortunately.

Sorry, I don't generally shop for jewellery online. I have a brilliant jewellers in my local town, so go to them. They always give excellent service and advice, I do like to try on pieces before I buy, plus they keep a record of all purchases, which is really useful for insurance purposes.

@30birthdaygirl MV are usually gold plated. Not the same thing. I’d look at small independent makers. Not high street brands. Especially if you want something special! What sort of studs? With a stone? Plain gold?

thebinkster · 13/06/2026 10:04

Try Etsy I’ve had some lovely gold studs from them.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 13/06/2026 10:11

I can recommend Just Gems at Winchcombe in Gloucestershire. Not so much in 18 ct - lots in 14 ct. As in the name, stones are the thing here.

mixingplaydoh · 13/06/2026 10:15

I got some lovely gold studs from Abelini jewellery, and would recommend. I got 14k gold, but I could have upgraded to 18k.

CrotchetyQuaver · 13/06/2026 10:16

Look on John Lewis website

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 13/06/2026 10:21

Also Tomfoolery of London is a collective of makers and a lot more interesting than high st offerings.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 13/06/2026 10:24

Abelii might be plated though. Prices suggest they are.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 13/06/2026 10:26

Pravins gold is usually 18k. They do some gorgeous pieces.

30birthdaygirl · 13/06/2026 11:37

Thank you all for the lovely ideas!

@CornishPorsche just something simpleto start off with. I have virtually no earrings since becoming allergic to everything else apart from gold some years ago. Not a massive budget but somewhere under £100 I guess.

All is have are some hoops which I bought in Greece decades ago 😄 they are lovely but I don't like wearing the same thing ALL the time so I save them for special occasions.

@30birthdaygirlYou won’t get solid 18ct gold anything for under £100. Just impossible. Are you sure you know what you are looking for? Plated earrings can bring about reactions. 9 ct solid should not but you are looking at cheap as chips for under £100. Therefore are you ok with plated?

The headline price is for the cheapest 9ct gold option, with the smallest diamonds. I paid around £450 for a 14k gold pair with 0.5ct lab grown diamonds.

30birthdaygirl · 13/06/2026 12:28

I'll have to go with plated then I guess. I don't have an unlimited budget. I just want small and simple so hopefully this can be achieved. 🤞

If you are allergenic have you looked at titanium?
I cannot wear costume jewellry for more than an hour , but I am ok with steriling silver .
My cartilidge piercings are titanium (there's various grades , I've seen some online and was suspicious ) but titanium is used in medical procedures too .

I have kept my tragus and helix piercings in (except to clean ) and no problems , 3-4 years now .

CornishPorsche · 13/06/2026 13:30

How about 9ct gold? Much more affordable.

30birthdaygirl · 13/06/2026 15:26

@CornishPorsche I'm not sure - how would I know?

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I need the gold colour too as I'm an autumn 🍂 although I'm sure titanium wouldn't react either. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you are looking at plain gold then have you considered second hand? Look at local auctions where they may have them at little over their gold weight value. If just gold and not set with eg pearls or stones then a good clean and they’ll look like new.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 13/06/2026 15:52

@mixingplaydoh The op wants to pay £100 for 18ct. Thats the issue!

Gettingbysomehow · 13/06/2026 15:53

I get all my gold jewellery from etsy. Its got everything. Solid and plated.

Gettingbysomehow · 13/06/2026 15:54

But for simple jewellery like studs check out Argos too. Their prices are very good.

CornishPorsche · 13/06/2026 16:27

Trial and error by the sounds of it!

Titanium is pretty inert, but needs to be implant grade to be hypoallergenic. It's also silver unless it's coated which may not be something you tolerate.

Plating wears off, so personally I'd look for some 9ct studs and see how you get on with them.

Argos have some inexpensive 9ct studs - maybe pick up a pair and see how you tolerate then?
