I would like one but don't feel they are elegant?

Would welcome thoughts

I have a Garmin Vivosmart but it's small and thin and you can easily change the strap. Amazon sell loads of colours and I think whilst it'll never be pretty, it at least blends in with what I'm wearing!

I tried going back to my ordinary watch cos it looks nicer but a smart watch is just too useful!

You can get nicer straps. However my apple watch is very plain and functional, which I don’t mind at all.

I have a Radley one, just changed from a fitbit and I love it.
It comes in other colours and you can change the face too.

I've got the new Fitbit Air for this reason. It's screenless and has several band options, including one in faux leather with gold or silver hardware. I wear it alongside a traditional watch.
