Had anyone truly cracked sun cream on family holidays?

By which I mean you know how much you need, in what formulations, you have the right factors, you know what to take to the beach and what to take to the pool, you’ve cracked the reapplication etc, and you have done this with the kids too?

I have two boys, 15 and 11, very sun cream resistant, plus a husband, Majorca 2 weeks, will be lots of pool and beach. Plus me and I like a bit of luxury suncream. We aren’t stay in the shade types, don’t even bother mentioning rash vests, we’d all like a bit of colour. I’d love someone to tell me what to
buy in what formulation and how much! Please share your secrets

I use soltan once and p20. I use factor 30 for me and 50 for the kids and my face. We are all fair though. On holiday in Turkey we got into swimwear to go to breakfast and I put it on all of us whilst in swimwear. It then had over the required 15 minutes to sink in. Then the kids were in the pool for about 3 hours and instructed not to rub their skin with a towel. They can still lie on sunbeds. I then apply it again after lunch. No one got burnt. I sometimes top it up with an aerosol as it’s easy to do when they are moving or somewhere sandy. We used approx a bottle each for 1 week.

Vichy is the best. Just take factor 50 and use it all the time as the sun is very strong out there. You can get one that claims to help you tan, though I'm not sure it has any validity.

I would test P20 before you go - one of my dcs and I get terrible prickly heat when we use it.

We've used P20/30/50 for the past 30 years. Waterproof, invisible and really works. Great as doesn't need reapplying bar at lunchtime even when in and out of the water. Just make sure you apply 30 mins before going into the sun. We put it on before breakfast.
I hate creams or oils.

Hi do you find it stains white clothes?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 06/06/2026 21:41

I use it, and yes it does, unfortunately.

I use Ace bleach (in the green bottle) to help remove the stains.

For your face OP, I recently had a small tube of Ultra Violette SPF50 Supreme Screen and thought it was excellent. No greasy feel, UVA and UVB protection. It's a sunscreen you can wear as a daily moisturiser and under make up if you like, rather than a day cream with SPF. I'm buying a full size one to take on holiday.

Same as a PP we apply sunscreen around 8:30-9am ish, we use factor 30 calypso once a day, though we do re apply after maybe an hour in the pool and then again after lunch (thought my 9yr old does wear a rash Tshirt at the peak of the UV)
I use factor 20 earlier in the day and switch to 30 after lunch.
We have the face serum as well which is good and isn’t too greasy.
I use Beauty of Josene Korean suncream which is lovely, not greasy at all for me.

Nivea aerosol spray for all four of us, usually the factor 50. Still get a tan.

Lancaster tab maximiser after being in the sun.

rash vests for the kids, non negotiable in the pool.

Sun Bum aerosol spf. A bottle per person.
