What is your hair routine for sleek shiny hair? Looking for tips for my 13 year old dd. Her hair after washing looks ratty and messy. I’m not expecting hair dresser style sleek, but something to help her hair be smoother

I’d love to know too.

I’ve tried every leave-in, serum, oil and shine spray known to man and I still can’t get that swingy shiny just-been-to-the-hairdresser hair. It just ends up looking lank.

I know people say it’s the blow dry technique flattening the follicles but it can’t just be that surely?

Soubriquet · 05/06/2026 18:04

There’s no way it can be just a blow dry!

I read somewhere that a final rinse with cold water helps the follicles smooth down.

I do that…and whilst my hair is smoother than my daughters it’s still not perfect. Mind you, I air dry too

Does she have fully straight hair or is there a wave or kink in it? What is her hair texture like?

Soubriquet · 05/06/2026 19:41

It’s not straight, it is quite wavy, but I wouldn’t call it curly. It has a few kinks which makes it wavy

Smoothing crème and blow drying for me. My 14 year old daughter swears by Beauty Works 10 in 1 miracle spray. And also has to blow dry.

Wash, condition, then work in a small amount of serum, avoiding the scalp. Blow or air dry till no longer wet but still slightly damp, then straighten, using a round brush and straighteners to create some body. This is what works for me. I don’t use any other products, can’t be doing with ‘em.

The Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser. Total game changer for me. I can't get a blow dry right to save my life, but with this I can actually get a smooth finish. I rough dry withy hair dryer to take the worst off, then switch to the Revlon to finish and smooth.

I have just got a Dyson Airstrait from Vinted - OMG I have sleek hair
new they are £300 even with offers but there are quite a few at £130-50 on Vinted
still £££ but I have found it really easy to use and not hot when using it on “wet” hair (air dried for a bit ) Much less damaging than straighteners?
