Another foundation one…

itsmeagainagain · 04/06/2026 07:58

I feel like this is my life’s quest… and I thought I had nailed it but feel like I’m back to square one again. Does anyone else find that their foundation just kind of sits on top of their skin? Whatever I’m using lately it almost looks flakey but very tiny flakes…. I’ve been using IT cosmetics CC cream and the formula was fab seemed to blend in well, covered my (thankfully not too severe) rosacea redness but now it’s not cutting it. I’m also finding it just feels ‘heavy’ on my skin. My skin is perhaps on the dry side too. Any tips, tricks, product suggestions? Not sure if I need a primer or something and know I need to increase my water uptake so will get on that. I’m 47 ….. looking for solidarity!! Thanks

Ha ..yeah the ads are relentless.

I do makeup in 5 mins flat. I don't like much fuss.

I mean, I'm not gorgeous anymore if I ever was, but I know I can do nice makeup 😜 I def prefer fairly natural look and not OTT though I quite like a red lippy now and then!

But I'm not a style and beauty person. Wouldn't touch fake lashes or nails or fillers or any of that. It's not for me. Depends what you like . Some like a heavy makeup look. It's not my thing though.

The trick is for your moisturiser and foundation to match - either both oil based or both water based. Otherwise they will fight (split, pill, flake etc).

I should be on commission but I always recommend LOreal True Match. Either the foundation in the square pump bottle or the Nude Serum version (a light foundation despite the name) with the pipette. I prefer the serum version but occasionally reach for the foundation.

I can’t find anything better. I’m mid 50s and this gives such a lovely finish while still looking like skin.

Agree, this is an amazing foundation.

i find applying a much smaller amount that i used to helps a lot and buffing it into my skin with a brush helps (age 46 and similar issues). I also use skin and me (tretinoin) along with Hado labo gold (Korean) serum and a basic moisturiser on top which has generally helped my skin.

Hi OP. Try to look for these ingredients so you have more options. Hydrating primer with "glycerin & polyglutamic acid" gives foundation smooth& moisturized surface. For rosacea look for a formula with a "dimethicone" base & buildable medium coverage in a satin finish, these blend into dry skin more naturally. Apply with damp sponge. Hope this helps.

@1emma19 that’s so helpful thank you!

Eborian cc. Pretty much the best thing I've ever used. Melts into your skin, feels like high end skin care and leaves skin looking like its lit from within.
Recently bought a garnier tinted spf cream, hoping it'd be a cheaper but similar kind of thing. Hopes dashed. It's truly awful. Awful colour and makes skin look worse not better. Lesson learnt.

@Whyohwhy321 I need to check out Eborian

It sounds like your skincare might be the issue, either that your moisturiser and the foundation don’t sit together well, or just that your skin is very dry.

What do you currently use on your skin?

@FairyBatman I use an oil based cleanser from simply and then as rich a moisturiser as I can as I just feel like it’s needs loads and loads… currently got a L’Oréal one and an Avene dry skin one. I actually like a really really thick one like a Nivea but not Nivea as I don’t think it really helps my skin long term just feels nice in the moment

@itsmeagainagain skin wise I will say I bought This Works and I hate the smell. I even queried with them if it was a fake batch or out of date cos I bought from Amazon. Can't fault their customer service but to me it smells awful.

I tried nuxe oil. No idea what the fuss is about. It's ok but nothing special.

I like no7 menopause skin creams. They're v nice.

I do think it's helped using nice face wash, that my skin has aged pretty well. I've never used anything harsh on my face for at least 15 years. My bit of luxury. I like foaming face washes.

I also think moisturizer isn't the important thing to splurge on. I never bothered with toners much, but whenever I've tried a nice one it definitely makes me look better. Someone more knowledgeable will probably agree or disagree in a mo. 😁

And I'm liking the iconic glow primer. Pixi is nice too. Would like to try more of their stuff.

Laura geller for me too - it’s the best I’ve found d by far

I have late 40’s dry perimenopausal skin. Having tried and used most of the top brand foundations, I’m finding Tatcha (the purple one or the blue night cream) is the only face cream that helps as a good hydrating base but it’s pricey and you do need to leave it for 10-15 mins to sink in.

Foundation wise having tried Estee Lauder and Giorgio Armani’s foundations for dry skin …Boots No7 Hydraluminous foundation is the most hydrating. However, more recently for summer I’m really liking the coverage of the No7 Protect & Perfect foundation with SPF 50. It’s medium coverage with the added bonus of the SPF, even my husband noticed it gave me a glow and said your make-up looks really nice (he doesn’t normally notice make-up changes).

Thank you @Luluelle I’ve previously liked hydro luminous actually but think the coverage was maybe a bit sheer so will look into the other one and Tatcha not heard of that

I find when my foundation is sitting more ‘on top’ of my skin, it really help to use much less and use a wet sponge to tap it in really well. It does make it more sheer. But that’s kind of the point. You might find using a green concealer for the redness, then the above gives you a nicer finish.

@Homebirdy yes I think you’re right about a beauty blender will buy one … I like to use my fingers over brushes but think a blender may be better still

@Mumteedum no I'm not a fan of heavy make up at all. I need mascara or my eyes get lost in my face😂I only wear foundation because of the rosacea. - I would love clear skin and to just go about my day with lovely moisturised skin but sadly that's not the case I just am very red faced I hate it

If it feels like your skin can’t hold moisture I’d recommend the ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and their phytoceramide moisturiser, which sits well under the IT CC cream.

Mumteedum · 05/06/2026 20:22

Have you tried green tinted primers @itsmeagainagain ? They're supposed to balance the red. I have a cheap and cheerful one. I don't have rosacea but can be a bit too pink/ red sometimes.

Bitofashock · 05/06/2026 20:31

Erborian BB seems good but has started to settle and look patchy by the end of the day. I seem to oxidise every foundation and end up orange by lunchtime!

You can get Tatcha (it’s a Japanese brand) products from Sephora or Space NK or direct. My sister put me on to it and when I try and go for something cheaper I have to revert back to it within weeks. I also have rosacea and would definitely give the Protect & Perfect a try, I bought it on a whim and it sat here for months, I only tried it recently and was pleasantly surprised by the coverage, it feels light but covers the redness on me. I’m reaching for it more than the Hydraluminous now.

@Mumteedum I tried the Dr Jart one and it was good but way too expensive but not tried any others. I'd sort of forgotten about those so might try a cheaper oe - which one have you got? Is it the L'oreal one?
