Dress for Dd1 for a wedding - She seems to be in between age styles iykwim

She is 10.7, and skinny and blonde with fair skin.

She has insisted on a dress, but I am yet to find one which she approves of.

They are all either to young in style or too old.

Dd2 is wearing a blue and white traditional style nice dress with white cardi and sandals, but obviously dd1 isn't going to be seen dead in anything like that.

It is only a registry office wedding, and I won't even be there, but I want them to look their best for a variety of reasons.

So, help.

Some nice ones at Monsoon?

IllegallyBrunette · 23/06/2008 13:26

Thanks Buda, I like several of those, but I am pretty sure that dd1 won't.

She is in that annoying 'i won't like it because you do' phase.

Perhaps if I say I hate them all, she will love them.

Show her them with apparent reluctance and say, 'hmm... I was looking at these but they are all too expensive and far too old for you". She'll want 'em!

Buda · 23/06/2008 13:28

I like this one - she could wear it with leggings as well which would make it more useful.

IllegallyBrunette · 23/06/2008 13:30

She wouldn't wear that Buda

She already has a lovely white dress with stars omn which really suits her, but I am insisting on something new because xp is paying LOL.

I can't find a pic of the star one she has but it is sort of fitted at the top, like a strapless dress would be, and then it flares out a bit. Suits her shape lovely, but I can't find anything similar.

Have tried Tammy girl (her preffered shop) but they don't have anything suitable in at the mo.

She wants something which is similar in style to this

My DD1 is the same age and wouldn't do Monsoon but would do something 'cool' like fatface or something like this spotty one
Or what about a maxidress
Or crochet
Or more traditional

IllegallyBrunette · 23/06/2008 13:47

Thanks herbie, will have another look in debenhams.

Rosa, I love the one in the last link, and i think dd probably would too, but I doubt if xp will agree to pay that much, even though I saved money on dd2's dress, which was £6 from Primark .

too flowery ?

bit plain ?

halter

maxi

maxi

IllegallyBrunette · 23/06/2008 14:05

I love the maxi dresses, and I think dd1 would look fab in them as she is tall and skinny, but she looked at me like I was from another planet when I showed her one the other day.

She seems to think that I cannot possibly know what is fashionable and what isn't, and accused me of trying to make her look silly when I got her a pair of white linen(ish) trousers the other week. She reckons no one wears trousers in the summer.

She has failed to notice that we don't get summer in the UK.

I might at least see if I can persuade her to try a maxi dress on. I will bribe her if I have to LOL.

Oh the joys of a tweenager... I've got all this to come

IllegallyBrunette · 23/06/2008 14:09

And now the set I want for Ds to wear, doesn't go up to his size

Either of these? Not very dressed-up, but would look smart, and could be worn lots abain.

Bink · 23/06/2008 16:04

Have you tried Zara?

Not this?

TheSmallClanger · 23/06/2008 16:59

Can she not be persuaded of the benefits of a top and skirt combo?
My DD is a similar age, shape and hair colour and prefers this look to dresses now. Things tend to fit her better as well.

IllegallyBrunette · 24/06/2008 10:23

Thanks for all of the links. I am going to sit down with dd later and show her everything on here and see what she thinks.

She will like the Tammygirl one because it is from Tammy, but not sure she will like that it is flowery.

I did look in Zara the other day. but dd wasn't with me and it was boiling hot in there so I came straight out again.

I think she'd have alot more choice if she went for a skirt and tpo, but she is insisting on a dress for some reason.
