If you’ve seen a woman look great in swimwear and she was a bit lumpy and bumpy, what was she wearing?

I’m a very tall size 16 but struggle with loose skin due to (ongoing) weightloss. Tops of thighs, upper arms, and especially lower stomach are the main culprits. I’ve made peace with the bingo wings, but have resorted to swim dressed to cover stomach and thighs, and it just feels a bit dowdy.

Because I’m tall with a long abdomen, one-piece swimsuits tend to sit very high on my legs and ots really not pretty given some aproning. I don’t have the figure, nor the confidence, for a bikini. Tankinis doesn’t seem to offer much of a solution.

I have considered wearing swim shorts under a swimsuit but I think that would just draw more attention to the fact that I’m not feeling very confident!

What I’d absolutely love is a one-piece with runny control that comes down slightly over the things, has decent bust support and a mid-high back, but I’ve never found one.

So, if you’ve seen someone plus sized looking great and effortless at the pool, what was she wearing?

I think it's all down to not giving a shit.

Personally I'm only ever in the pool to have fun with DC so I wear a full rash vest and board shorts.

How about a swimsuit from Long Tall Sally so it’s made specifically for taller women?

Crafta · 01/06/2026 06:03

Longtallsally have some with little skirts on them. Also Next tall do a lot of swimsuits in Next brand and sell LTS brand

Boden swimsuits are nicely cut and flattering. If you’re self conscious, wear a short sarong around your waist when you’re not sat down or in the pool.

What I love about going on holiday though, is for all the body angst before you go, within a few hours you realise that 99% of the bodies you’ll see are also imperfect and nobody really pays any attention.

If you're fair skinned, a fake tan works wonders. I have similar body issues to you and find a spray tan makes me feel 100% more confident. Other than that I find bravissimo a good place for swimwear - their usp is larger busts so their range gives shape to bigger bodies.

Not all swimsuits marketed as tall or long seem to be that different to the regular fit, which look obscene on my long body. I couldn’t get into M&S and find Boden very short in length too.

LTS is poor quality these days.

Next do some tall range swimsuits.

Lands End have a good range of longer length swimsuits. My favourite is Lands End tankinis. The tops are long enough to cover, you can mix & match tops and bottoms. Also tops and board shorts. They aren’t cheap but excellent quality with frequent offers.

Not all tankinis tops are the same! Some are nice and long, and if you team one with a pair of 'boy short' style swimming bottoms in a colour which vaguely goes with it, it will act like a long one piece with a bit of thigh coverage.

If you browse the Next website they have loads of swimwear and a lot of their tankinis can be bought as separates so you can mix and match. I've just done exactly that. I needed a decent tankini top with bust support but didn't need new bottoms. My new top is (Fantasy) black and cream and my old bikini bottoms are just black tie side so they'll go together fine.

Halcoline

Go to Rigby and Peller and ask to try on some swimsuits with the correct bra size
and tummy control. They are game changing.

Harriet36 · 01/06/2026 06:28

Bloomchic has some very flattering swimwear with matching coverups

How did I never think of this?!

Just ordered this from Next. Think it’s probably a good solution because it covers the problem bits, but doesn’t look overly swim-dressy!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I used to have a tankini with shorts and quite a long top and it was ideal. No luck finding someone similar though.
