I didn't want to make the title 'What's the one thing you need to do... ' etc because obviously no-one should feel pressured to do anything!

I guess I mean what's the one (or perhaps two) things you wish to pay more attention to?

Last year I decided to be quite religious about applying sunscreen to my face daily. It has made a big difference to my skin, I can see it.

Now the one change is to cut out alcohol and really hydrate properly.

(And as a second, I need to pay more attention to my hair... styling it I think).

As others have said, use more sun protection. And consider exploring laser hair removal. At present l have monthly Hollywood waxes.

Is it just me who doesn't understand the obsession with cutting out alcohol? I have cut it out at various points in my life due to pregnancy and health issues and it's never made the slightest difference to my skin. And honestly I wouldn't give up my weekend wine even if it did!

I do plenty of exercise but where I fall down is picking at my kids' leftovers etc. I need to cut that out

Retinol. Sometimes think I’m the only 40+ anywhere not using it. But I’m a bit scared by all dry peeling face stories.

Weight training once I’m able to get back to the gym (still recovering from a surgery). Annoyingly I was doing really well until I had to stop.

No need to be scared of Retinol. I've been using it for years. Start with a lower concentration and use it every other day while your skin adjusts.

I want to be better at sleeping! Hoping my new HRT helps.

The dentist. I like to take care of myself in general and I do look after my teeth at home but I have such a bad phobia (caused by an incident of malpractice as a teenager) that I haven’t visited one in 20 years.

Strength training. I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than lift weights and I’m so sick of having it shoved down my throat at every turn.

If you’re in the NW and have money to do private, (this goes for anyone TBF not just you!) I can recommend a dentist that specialises in nervous patients. They can also sedate you but they got me through a root canal, crown and extraction with no sedation

I would love this recommendation please 🙏

I looked at some Number 7 (boots) retinol night cream today thanks to this thread. I'm going to consider it and do some research but I know people love it.

I have started watching a short youtube video every day about something to do with beauty, makeup or style. That has already changed how I do my makeup and today I bought some skin highlighting cream that was recommended to put on the cheeks above the blusher. It actually looks pretty good!

It's so silly, but I realised that at the age of 53 I was still doing my makeup the way my mother taught me when i was in my teens with the same colours and method etc. I definitely need updating and youtube is just fabulous for that!

Fantastic! YouTube is brilliant for make up tutorials, I totally agree. It's so easy to get stuck in a rut with make up and keep doing it the same way you've always done even though of course we're older and our skin has changed.

Hope you get on well with the retinol!
