Nail salon

Hi , I rarely get my nails done but have an occasion and had shellac on my finger nails yesterday
The lady had finished my nails in 20 minutes it felt very rushed , I’m pleased with them but during the drying process my nails felt like they were on fire it was very uncomfortable, I believe this is a heat spike so she clearly had it on a high setting when I mentioned it to her she dismissed me .
Im actually worried about the damage that she could have caused in my nail beds let alone nail cancer ( my non rational thinking ) I haven’t had my nails done for years . I feel so stupid sitting through the discomfort why didn’t I complain more ?

Very painful. Soak them off now and put some oil on. My nails were wrecked by exactly what you have described (both thumbs actually came away from my nail bed and took months to recover) Dermatologists have written about the impact of this stuff too. Don’t feel bad. You weren’t to know and she clearly didn’t give a toss given she didn’t adjust the technique. Good luck.

Have they settled down now @Swissroll12 or still hurting?

She may have filed your nail too thin and/or cured the polish too hot. That shouldn’t hurt past a day or two.

If it still hurts tomorrow I’d speak to her and explain. See if they need to come off.

Goes without saying but any spreading redness on your fingers swelling etc could be an allergy and I’d seek medical advice.

I only had gels once for this reason; I found the process a bit sore and then as @SavBlancinRecovery said my nails after were damaged. Nowhere near as badly as her experience, just pitted and thin. Never again!

I wouldn't go near these places. My neighbour does this for a living and wouldn't let her near my nails.

Thanks for your replies my nails are ok today no pain but at the time I was very concerned as they felt like they were being fried under the uv
As previously mentioned I never go to nail salons this was a one off bad experience.

The salon is cheap but I think I’ll spend a bit more and go somewhere else to have them removed

As they feel ok today, I might be inclined to leave them on til after your event. If your nails look damaged, you’ll feel absolutely crap at the do, when you’ve tried to do a nice thing for yourself. It doesn’t sound like a few days will cause any issues.

in my case I was going on holiday and I left my shellac on (thinking as they had stopped hurting after the nail salon visit they would be okay) but have since been told that actually made the situation worse and I should have removed immediately - maybe it would have saved part of my nails from detaching. 😳

Soaking off is easy at home. Just soak cotton pads in remover and then wrap one around each individual nail. Then cover each nail in a strip of kitchen tin foil and leave for about 20 mins. The stuff will just flake off.

Did you have the heat spike as well
my nails feel fine now , if there is any damage when they do come off I’ll be seeing a solicitor

Yes it was very sore. 😩
fingers crossed you will be fine but I’d just urge caution and would personally remove but I get wanting to keep a nice mani for as long as possible!

I would never go back to this particular salon again if I was to have my nails done again I would spend a bit more at a good salon and request that they use a low uv

I’ve only had gel polish put on my fingernails once, they were definitely not a pretty sight when it was taken off but thankfully there was no lasting damage.
I now stick to natural shades in ordinary polish on my fingernails — paler shades are much easier for me to apply but they still look groomed and ‘done’.
I have more vibrant shades (but still not gels) painted on my toenails for summer, done in a salon, as it needs to be a neat job.
