Nails brittle and breaking - Looking for product recommendations please

Im 60 and always had strong thick fingernails, but recently noticed them getting brittle and breaking, so I got gel varnish professionally applied for a recent wedding I attended , but it cracked after 2 weeks and so I had it removed , they filed off the top layer and soaked nails in remover.
My nails are now dull and even more thin and brittle than before.
I’ve decided coloured varnishes aren’t for me and I want to have a nice natural look and start to regularly use a clear varnish , but I know I also need to strengthen and nourish my nails too .
Is there such a combined product or do I need 2 products. ?

There are so many out there Im totally confused and am looking for recommendations of tried and tested strengthening and or clear varnishes . Thank you in advance.

Not a quick fix but someone i work with who's 67 is taking collagen powder and she has said for this first time in years she has strong nails with some length to them

I’ve had dreadful nails after loosing a lot of weight. I bought Sally Hansen miracle cure recently and it has improved them so much, I’m honestly shocked at how much better they were in just a few weeks! Gives a nice subtle shine too

I’m 55, just past menopause and at the end of last year my nails started thinning and flaking. No varnish type treatments would stay on they were so flaky.

I love varnish but don’t put anything on them now, just keep them trimmed as short as possible and use collagen tablets as well as glucosamine and chondroitin and six months in they are much better. Still thin, I can’t grow them, but at least they’ve stopped flaking. I’ve been told I’m wrong and collagen doesn’t work, its all in my head…OK.

I never tried gels for the reasons you say, the filing and soaking in acetone.

The one thing that has sorted mine, and I notice when I stop, is MSM capsules from Oskia. Yes, they are expensive but have been transformational for me.
They take about three months to notice a difference, then about three months when I stop. So if you can afford them do try and stick with them.

Thank you. I’ll give this a try. I have a tub in the cupboard- I’ve just not got round to using it.

Try taking biotin, it's one of the B vitamins. It does take a couple of months before you see a difference but I start to see less splitting after 3 weeks usually. I just need to remember to take it!

Edited

Im going to try the collagen powder and some good quality clear varnish and as you suggest I will keep them short and tidy. Luckily I have long nail beds so they look ok even when short. I’ll never have gel again .

I've been trying to get my nails back to best after gel nails and Manucurist Keratin treatment has really made a difference. It's a gel you apply like a varnish but it sinks in within about a minute or two. I used it 3 times a day at first and my nails are in really good condition now - I've actually had to trim them which is unheard of for me.
