Advice on anti-ageing skincare

Hello - please can anyone advise re some skincare please?

I want to add in some any aging products and am a bit confused! I was going to buy a vitamin c serum for morning and try retinol at night, with a good spf every day and moisturiser.

However I am a bit scared of retinol and wondered if peptides would be a good idea at night instead?

I also read about Niacinamide and wondered if anyone used this?

I have combination skin, although it’s more oily t zone and normal cheeks rather than any dryness.

Main thing I’m looking for is anti aging but there’s just so many products and so much choice!

Any input much appreciated!

I have started the skincare initially for acne then maintain for anti aging. Will share that my routine if that helps:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
LRP spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

You’re actually thinking about it in a balanced way already. If retinol makes you nervous you don't need to jump into strong formulas straight away. You can start with peptides/niacinamide first because they’re generally much gentler & help with skin barrier support, oil balance, & overall skin quality. Then later, if you want you can introduce a low-strength retinoid 1–2x a week. Don't forget daily sunscreen.

Have a look at Caroline Hirons on instagram, she has lots of advice and information. She also has her own skincare brand called Skin Rocks. I’ve been using the Amplifier, Gentle Acid and Retinol 1 for a few weeks, I really like them.

Recommend Paula’s Choice. Absolutely fantastic range and good explanations with trial sizes and free gifts. Not the cheapest but lots of offers regularly and products are good.

Yes, have a close look. Then wonder if it's worth taking advice from someone who has skin roughly the texture of an old tan leather sofa

She really doesn’t. Her skin is lovely in real life

My skin could do with something life changing. I’ve used Boots No .7 retinol in the past but not noticed any difference. How long does it take to work please?

In general OTC retinols are 10 times less effective than the prescription trets which I get but still it takes 4-5 months so see some noticeable difference

Medik8 do their retinol in different strengths, I’d start on the lowest strength if you’re nervous and build up (I was a bit nervous but started on the second strength and it was fine, I’m now about to move up to the next strength). Just don’t use anything else harsh whilst using the retinol (I made the mistake of using a very strong exfoliating mask right before using the retinol and that is the only time I had an issue). I also like Medik8’s C Tetra Advance and use various serums (including peptide serums) to mix things up.
